SSN experience
taramo35 and one other reacted to pswa83 for a post in a topic
ok, so i just thought i'd write down about how my experience went when i applied for my SSN. 1.) Before going, I downloaded and filled out the SSN app. i left the "citizenship" question blank. the lady who took my application filled in "legal alien allowed to work" 2.) she asked me some basic question, such as if my address was correct, if i ever applied for a SSN before, etc. easy questions and nothing to be worried about. 3.) then she said, that once the SSA varifies my EAD with DHS, then i should have my card within the next 7-10 days. i took my BC but was never asked for it. before i went, i was worried about the 10 day waiting thing but the lady never said anything about it and i didnt ask. lol so i hope this gives a litte insight on how my experience at the SSA office went. -
1 pointOk it is 9:30 am here in San Francisco and I just left Social Security! PLEASE PLEASE if you want to make sure you get a SSN when you go, just wait 10 days from when your EAD was issued. This lady told me my EAD was fairly new and have to wait 10 days.. So se told me to come back on the 22nd which was complete BS!! I know and read some people have been told the same thing but others were able to apply couple of days after they obtained their EAD card! Please bring the following items as well when you go, 1) EAD card 2) Foreign Passport 3) Birth Certificate! Those 3 are key! Although there are some items on their list that you can bring as well.. But those 3 are the things they look for.

1 pointHey guys! Well, I was wondering if any of you guys have any plans to solve their migratory status after getting their DACA approved. What I mean is, yes, we're gonna be granted SSN and a work permit but only valid for two years and if the policy is renewed then we can renew it for another two years and so on. I see this as an opportunity or kick start for us to solve through other possible ways. For me, I see this as a temporary solution (which it is) but that will let me solve my situation much easier than having nothing, I will literally work my ass off even more so that I'm prepared if something happens to DACA. Does any of you think the same? I know a highly paying job, a car, education are important, but I think solving our migratory situation is a first priority. This is a one of a kind opportunity and we have to make the best out of it. After we solve our status, we will be able to get whatever we want cause as DREAMERS that we are, we have gone through very difficult situations, we know what it feels to not be able to work like other people, have the things other people have, or even drive without being scared about being pulled over, or as simple as it is, when people ask us for an identification and we have nothing to show but a passport (for some). So I think even though we will be able to "calm down" for two years, this is a heads up for us to work even harder and be prepared for the future, so I think it's a great idea, while we wait for our application to be approved, plan for the future, plan what to do, how to work things out so we won't fall again into what we were before DACA.

1 pointI have also been hearing that the Texas center has been talking longer to review applications. We should not be concerned that they will not review each application fairly but rather they are a bit slow in their process. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Date Application Sent: September 07, 2012 Lockbox: Chicago, IL Mail Method: USPS Flat Rate mail w/ delivery confirmation Date Delivered: September 10, 2012 Date of I-797 C Notice of Action: September 12, 2012 Service Center : Texas Date of Biometrics: Walk-in September 24th, 2012 @10:00am Date of EAD Letter/Email/TXT Approval: Pending Date of EAD Mailed: Pending Date of EAD Received: Pending

1 pointafter your appt, you just basically wait until you are approved. if you have signed up for status updates on the USCIS website, you might get a txt and/or email when you are approved. then USCIS will let you know that your EAD card has been put into production, when they mail it, when USPS picks it up for delivery and when its actually delivered to your house. then once you get it, you can go to the SSA office and apply for a SSN, then once you have your SSN card, you can apply for a DL/ID if you live in a state that will issue you on. then from there, you can live a normal live. get a job, drive legally and all that fun stuff.
