1 pointHello everyone - I have been thinking about establishing a Fund that would provide Financial Aid for those individuals that qualify for Deferred Action, but that are not able to finance the Application Fee for the Biometrics and Employment Authorization. Below are some thoughts. Please feel free to provide feedback: Dream Act Fund (Not 100% sure the name can be used, but I will use it for now) The fund would work to finance a portion/all of the expense related to filing for DACA/EAD It would basically work like a scholarship fund The screening process has to be rigorous in order to avoid potential scams Not limited only to High School students, or to Hispanics for that matter The emphasis of one of the qualifications has to be on education and on people that want to take advantage of many opportunities that are available whenever DACA status is granted In regards to staff, the idea would be to get volunteers in several locations throughout the country: Miami, Chicago, NY/NJ, Boston, LA/SF, etc The volunteers have to belong to the forum and have to be willing to invest some of their time in the logistical/administrative process One of the requirements to qualify for aid would be to have the potential candidates sign up to the Forum and participate actively, providing feedback and helping fellow dreamers. In addition, the Fund could serve as a Marketing Tool in order to promote the many resources available, and the constant stream of feedback/information from other dreamers. Some screening requirements could be: Be a High School student High School Diploma or equivalent Enrolled in College/Technical School/Advanced Education Programs Having to submit Essays (although not sure what they have to be about) Topics (3, 5, 10 year plan, etc) How many Essays (1, 2, 3?) How long each Essay (200, 400, 1,000 words?) [*]Household information How many live at home Monthly household income Expenses Currently employed? As a preliminary idea, the funds could be pooled in a Paypal account, which allows the flexibility of transferring funds, it is very easy to receive donations online, and it is very secure. The fund would hypothetically work in the following way: The funds would be provided via Paypal by potential donors Volunteers would receive applications by potential candidates Screening process would determine if they would qualify and what would be covered If applicant qualifies for Full Aid, the Fund would cover USCIS related expenses (Only!) Shipping expenses [*]If a certain applicant is accepted, the volunteer would be notified, and funds would be transferred from Paypal to volunteers Bank Account It is imperative that the volunteers have a 'low risk' Bank Account, meaning, the account is never overdrafted so there are no risks that the bank would use funds transferred from The Fund to cover personal expenses of the volunteer [*]The volunteer would acquire a money order from their bank and be able to ship the materials of the candidate [*]The Fund would be advertised mostly through Social Media and Word of Mouth. Volunteers would be encouraged to promote the fund as they want, as long as the Purpose/Guidelines/Objectives are clearly stated - they will not be allowed to modify it as they please - for consistency/campaign purposes [*]Even though Fund management is centralized, Marketing activities are Decentralized, and are up to the volunteers discretion. However, the more we market and acquire funds, the more people we will be able to help In a nutshell, this is basically how the Fund would work. There would be a strong need to advertise the Forum as well, since it is a great tool for all of the Dreamers to access information/share their burden, and also since it contributed greatly to the development of the fund. Also, I will research if there would be any need to register the Fund as a Non-profit, or if it can operate without registration. I am very serious about this, and I would like to be able to help people achieve their dreams one step at a time. I bet most of you guys would like to also. Please feel free to give ideas, ask questions and provide any feedback in regards to what is presented above. Keep in mind that this is not final and that it is merely a rough draft. Thanks in advance for your input. Regards, Santiago.

1 pointok, so i just thought i'd write down about how my experience went when i applied for my SSN. 1.) Before going, I downloaded and filled out the SSN app. i left the "citizenship" question blank. the lady who took my application filled in "legal alien allowed to work" 2.) she asked me some basic question, such as if my address was correct, if i ever applied for a SSN before, etc. easy questions and nothing to be worried about. 3.) then she said, that once the SSA varifies my EAD with DHS, then i should have my card within the next 7-10 days. i took my BC but was never asked for it. before i went, i was worried about the 10 day waiting thing but the lady never said anything about it and i didnt ask. lol so i hope this gives a litte insight on how my experience at the SSA office went.

1 pointLike Jose said allow up to 90 days for your i765 acceptance notification and there's no need to be worried. Once your i821D review gets finished, your i765 process starts. Although acceptance on the i821D doesn't guarnatee the acceptance on the i765. But my guess is most people applying for the i821D will be accepted on the i765, too, to be able to work because that's the initial intention of the government (let us work, collect tax, and boost up the economy). That's a good thing if you feel like your i765ws was too simple because that's perfect. You don't need to exaggerate anything or state explanation. 'I would like to be able to work to support myself." is perfect. For me, numbers I put on the i765ws are much different than most of the people because I tried to run my own business, but the part.3 was just a simple sentence.

1 pointYeah, most people get both forms approved within one or two days of each other, but, USCIS has up to 90 days to give you a response on your I-765 form so maybe they are still looking over it. On the Additional Information part I just stated what some of my expenses where and who was paying for them.

1 pointYes. Your case review really starts when the biometrics result come out. Getting your biometrics earlier just means your case gets started reviewed earlier, but that doesn't mean you will get notified earlier. Every application gets reviewed case by case basis. The timed consumed to make final decision depends on the center your case gets reviewed under, the official in charge of your case, and most of all, your case. You are misunderstanding something big. No one got approved before the biometrics.

1 pointI'm not understanding what you're saying. Your I-821D has been approved but not your I-765? If so, give it a day or two.

1 pointsounds good just needs to be fine tuned i would love to help in this project as a business major I would enjoy it working on it and help my fellow Dreamers. Also perhaps I could get the word out and maybe be able to get some donations for the fund. Count me in on this great project.

1 pointi filled it out. i mean the SSA cant deny me a SSN soley on that reason. I see the reasoning of not wanting to be put at a disadvantage because of being Latino but my view about being Latino is that is if someone has a problem with it or have preconception about Latino then they can either ask about the Latino culture from my life experince or they can continue to be stupid (and yes, for me there is a difference between being stupid and being ignorant) and live their own small minded lives with like mind idiots, If someone does like you because of WHAT you are rather than WHO you are, then it is by no fault of your own. it's their problem and they can sit on it and spin. and yes, i would say that to someone to their face and i'll do it with a smile

1 pointHey Guys... I've just noticed, this is not a first come first serve.... I took my Bio on Oct., 1st and still haven't heard anything of my approval. On the other hand, my wife took her Bio on Oct., 4th.. at the same office i did...and she already got her approval today... So as i read on other threads that it all depends on takes your case... Oh by the way... this is my first post in this forum and all forums....

1 pointI filled it out..its really personal choice..you dont have to if you dont want to and also, even though I filled out the application, when I got to the SS office, the lady who helped me asked me the same questions that were on the application but she didnt ask me about race....

1 pointI agree C_Air23, because some people dont know what theyre doing, they should reach out to others they see that have been through a similar process and ask for advice/tips..thats the reason this forum was created. To help each other out, that is what distinguishes us DREAMERS from other youth, we'll help each other up, not put our foot at someones neck and keep them down...

1 pointThis is my personal experience: Every EAD card has 2 dates. The VALID FROM and EXPIRES. Ill use my dates as an example, my EAD is valid from 10/8/12-10/7/14. If we do our math, 10 days after the VALID FROM date would be 10/18/12. Today is the 10/16. I took a risk and applied for my new SS card just because I already have a SS card and therefore, I assume I exist in the system. I went prepared with the the printed out and filled out application found on the SS website, my original and certified birth certificate, my EAD, my consulate ID, a bill under my name ( just to prove present address) and the letter from USCIS stating that I had been approved for DACA. I even took my high school diploma. I prefer to be over prepared than under prepared. I got to the SS office at about 9AM. They hadnt opened yet and there was a line of about 20 people. As soon as they open there was a security guard and another man asking the reason one is there and handing out tickets/number. I noticed there are 2 catergories. Tickets A and Ticket B. From my assumption, not fact,Ticket A was handed to individual who have a SS card and were just applying for a new card, either because of change of last name or in my case because I obtained my EAD. Ticket B was for individuals who wanted to handle cases with SS benefits or military benefits. My number was A6.I waited at the most 20 minutes in a line until I was seen by the next available teller. I told her I was there to change the status of my present SS card to VALID FOR EMPLOYMENT because I had just received my EAD. She asked to see it and all the questions I had answered on the application available on the SS website, she asked again. I didnt have to hand over my printed out application. She DID NOT ask me for birth certificate or anything else. She just asked to see my EAD and to confirm my SS #. After that she gave me a print out and told me I was updated on their system and ready to go. She told me to expect my new card within 2 weeks. I would be keeping the SAME number, therefore no need for me to go back and wait for a new # to be created for me. With this print out, if asked my potential employers to see my card, I have a 2 week window to present that card but my # is activated from NOT VALIID FOR EMPLOYMENT to VALID FOR EMPLOYMENT. Overall, this process was fairly quick and fast for me. I was out of the SS office in about 30 minutes. I hope everyone elses process goes as smoothly.

1 pointPswa83, seems like things went really well, and I'm very glad. Good for you! I like that there doesn't seem to be any hassles obataining a SSN. We've gone through enough already. Good for you!

1 pointIve also noticed it depends a lot on what service center you were sent to...it seems more people are being approved faster at the California Service Center...Im at the Nebraska Center and I havent seen too many approvals from there.....darn Nebraska, it seems all theyre doing is sticking corn husks up their ***.... just relax and be patient...I'd start worrying if it was 2 months AFTER my bio appt...
