    Still waiting??...getting frustrated

Can't agree more, lately I've been a little anxious and some days i will just randomly get in a terribly bad mood. All I can say and maybe you're getting bored of hearing the same thing (just like me) is to be patient, don't stress it out and let things flow as it should, been impatient and anxious won't do anything but harm ourselves. Hopefully the day will come, as others may have said, we have been waiting for years and years for a moment like this one and maybe months or days or even hours away (for some) won't hurt, let's be positive and just think about all the good things that will come with it but as for now, enjoy what you have right now, even if you have plenty of free time, enjoy it, cause maybe after you get approved you won't have much free time ever again. Best of luck to you and everyone else who's waiting for their approval, and for those who are just getting started with the process, you have a long way to go but this is just a kick start to all the dreams you once had and were taken away when you realized your legal situation. It's now the time for us to act, to take the chance and the opportunity this country has given us and show them how much we want to contribute to what most of us call this home. Once again, just be patient, i know it's hard, but let things flow as it should.

    Job Searching and more...

Some of us have already been approved and have even received our EADS and SS Cards...now the tough climb begins.... This topic is for us to share our experiences and tips upon entering the workforce. Ill start by sharing mine: I worked "under the table" and never attempted to use my SS # because of the NOT VALID FOR EMPLOYMENT restriction, neither did I use a fake one for fear of getting caught and the consequences. This "under the table" jobs dont qualify as experience and shouldnt because I shouldnt have been working in the first place. Needless to say, the economy SUCKS. At this moment as we approach the holiday seasons, is when more jobs should be available but it seems they arent availble to those "unexperienced" Ive been applying mostly at retail jobs, heres my list: Kmart Sears Pet's Smart Pet's Barn Radioshack Dollar General Family Dollar Ross Jack In the Box Macys Local supermarkets Clerical jobs at local businesses Local Laundromat Some of these places have already sent me emails from their human resources departments that I cant be considered for the position because I have NO WORK EXPERIENCE. Its sad and disheartening but all I can do is continue. I prepped up my resume with special skills to see if I'd catch anything with the following statement: I am highly skilled in the use of computers and the Internet, including Microsoft Office, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Outlook and Internet searches. I learn very quickly, possess excellent verbal and written communication skills. I am fluent in both English/Spanish and possess the ability to speak, read and write at an advanced level. I can type 55 words per minute and am a firm believer in providing exceptional customer service. I am currently training at a local business as a cashier. I started intershiping/training as a cashier at my father in laws business. Hopefully Ill be able to learn quickly and find a job ASAP. Some jobs ask if you have a DL, be sure and obtain this ASAP. It shows one is prepared. Im still in the process of obtaining mine but will eventually. My personal advice is: Many doors will close but when that "golden" door finally does open, its because it was meant to be.

The House voted Friday to cancel the annual diversity visa lottery and give those immigration visas to high-tech foreign-born who earn advanced degrees from American universities, as Republicans powered through their chamber the first major immigration bill since the election. The 245-139 vote was a test of the GOP’s plan to tackle immigration piecemeal, and while the bill passed, the strong opposition from Democrats suggests that Republicans’ strategy will face difficult hurdles. And while the chief selling point of the bill was to boost green cards given to science, technology, engineering and technology students, the bigger fight came over Republicans’ plans to cancel the diversity visa lottery, which the GOP argues is rife with fraud. “We want to put to the head of the line the people who, every single one of them that comes, net creates jobs,” said Rep. Darrell Issa, California Republican, who managed the bill on the House floor. Democrats, though, objected to making immigration a zero-sum equation, where any new visas would have to come at the expense of existing lines of immigration. “I can’t support a bill that pits immigrant communities against each other,” said Rep. Zoe Lofgren, the ranking Democrat on the House immigration subcommittee. She also said that it’s not a one-to-one exchange, and immigration would actually decrease under the GOP bill. While all 55,000 diversity visas are used every year, she said statistics from the National Science Foundation show that there are only about 30,000 students a year who would even qualify. After Hispanics were credited with helping boost President Obama in this year’s elections, both parties have been eager to find ways to tackle immigration. Democrats say they want to pass a broad bill that legalizes most illegal immigrants and rewrites the legal immigration system, while House Speaker John A. Boehner has said his chamber will go piece-by-piece. Both Republicans and Democrats agree more should be done to keep desirable would-be immigrants, such as those earning advanced degrees, here in the U.S. But they disagree over whether to do that as a stand-alone, or what should be coupled with it. In the case of this week’s bill, it eliminates the diversity visa lottery — a long-time target of some Republicans, who say it invites fraud and could be a national security risk. The lottery doles out immigration visas based on chance, with the goal of giving those in lesser-represented countries a chance to earn a spot. Every year, millions of would-be immigrants apply for the 55,000 slots. House Judiciary Committee Chairman Lamar Smith, who wrote the legislation, said the visa lottery invites fraud. In an effort to sweeten the bill for Democrats, he included a provision that would allow legal immigrants to let their family members, who are also seeking green cards, to wait in the U.S. with them, rather than have to wait in their home countries. Still waiting??...getting frustrated

My application was received on August 31st, went for biometrics Sept.26 and I'm still waiting to get approved. I just been getting so discouraged and its a little frustrating reading about people the had their biometrics taken way after me and have gotten approved already, I'm happy for those people but why did my case have to take so long! I'm turning 21 next month and it would be nice to be able to drive, work, and go out without having to carry around my passport. I hate having to explain to everyone why I'm 20 yrs old and don't drive, I don't like to say I'm illegal and so people just think I'm lazy. I know this is more of a rant than a question but I just needed to let that out and most of my friends have no idea I'm illegal, I come up with the craziest stories.

    Heyyyyy

Hello, my name is Alex I'm 23 years old and I come from Colombia. I entered the United States in the year of 1999 when I was 9 years old. I initially came with my mother and sister, my dad had already been living here since 1990 we came here all thanks to him who sent for us. Life in Colombia for me was good in the sense that I've always had everything. We've had a beautiful home, with beautiful surroundings. At the time however, Colombia was under very heavy turmoil from drug cartels and the armed forces that kept innocent people under constant threat. My family was never at peace, we got harassed and our home robbed constantly. The violence was vicious amongst the rebel groups at the time. I recall many times where me and my family came under many near death experiences. Shootings, bombings you name it. We experienced it, we lived it. The 90's era in Colombia was one that made many people flee the country. Violence was vicious. That its what brought me and my family here to the U.S. Initially when I arrived to the U.S life was good. My parents had good paying jobs the economy in the country was good and life for undocumented immigrants wasn't as difficult as it is today. Hence, it was possible to get a DL and easier to get a job. My adaptation to this country couldn't come off any better, I started going to school few months after I arrived, I picked up the language very fast. My family no longer had to suffer the uncertainty of safety that we've had back in the native land. Ever since I was young I had always been involved in sports, mainly soccer. When I was in middle school playing with my friends I got picked up by a scout of one of the top clubs in my region (Bolts). My talent evolved, I played and trained with the best. This was a great time for me, I met places, people made the best of friends. When I got to high school and already recognized as a "player to watch" I was given the opportunity of a lifetime to join the All-American team to travel abroad for tournaments. At that time I didn't recognize I was an undocumented alien, I felt as though I was from here. When the time came on the summer of 2006 I was going to be taken to taken to Italy for a tournament. That was not possible... I had to be withdrawn from the team. The following year, I missed yet another trip to Dominica. This for me was a breaking point. I began to realize that my status situation was really going to hurt me in future goals. I had wanted to go to a university and study mechanical engineering, play for for a division one team. I dreamed of having a career working on big things. It often saddens me to think about the what ifs.. Two of my old team-mates/friends are now semi-professional, others playing for top universities in the country. Me, only the what if. Things were difficult, especially after 9/11 terrorist attacks. Everything got complicated for undocumented immigrants. I dropped out of high school in my sophomore year, but I returned and graduated with honors. After high school, with scholarships lost and opportunities gone I was never the same. I became isolated, lonely and many occasions depressed. I attempted to try going to college but it wasn't easy to carry on financially by myself. I hope for one day to be able to live the american dream. I want to be able to exploit all my virtues and talents. I hope for an immigration reform that can benefit us and our hard working families.

    Anyone ???

It has come to my attention and this is from observation, that people who are in the DHS database or USCIS, ICE, their cases seem to be taking longer to get approved. Individuals who had deportation orders, or those who were detained while crossing the border, cases such as these appear to be taking longer for approval. Other factors to consider, we've all talked and theorized about. Like I heard from somewhere in here; no news can actually be good news in a way. You haven't been denied.

My brother and I went in on the same day. The only difference was I was scheduled to go in 11/29. Did it like 20 days in advanced. Today I came to the realization along with wise words from my Ama that I have to let things just be. It will come when I least expect it. So I propose the same to everyone who is waiting. Lets hope for the best and keep ourselves busy. Congratulate those who get their permits before us. So that when we get ours we will have people who will congratulate us.keep me posted.....would love to congratulate you when it comes even if you get it before me!
