    Hi I'm Armando

Hi everyone. It's very encouraging to go through these forums, and see so many peers that have fought against the odds as undocumented youths like myself. I stumbled onto this site after searching to see if anyone else's DACA application has been taking too long to get approved. I'm glad that I'm not alone in this, though it's a little disheartening to learn that some people have been waiting far longer than me and still haven't heard anything. Anyway, my name is Armando; I'm 24 years old. An uncle carried me across the Mex/U.S. border and into Phoenix, AZ when I was 4 years old. I'd always been aware of my status as an undocumented immigrant, but it hit me hardest when I was in high school. Between the student exchange programs, summer trips to Germany, and university offers that I could never take advantage of, I was crushed. It felt like I was up against the entire world. At the least, I was determined to get attend college like any native student might do. After getting fake work credentials, I worked throughout my high school years, saving as much as I could. Even so, I had to spend 2 years at a community college before I attended the University of Illinois at Chicago for my last 3 years of study. I relied on a few private scholarships, and practically obliterated my life savings, but I obtained my B.S. in computer science in May 2012. It's kind of ironic, I was the valedictorian for my graduating class, and I gave a speech about engineers' responsibility to better society. Yet, I'm the only one who's life has remained stagnant since graduating. All of my friends have careers and fuller lives. Luckily, my siblings were all born in the U.S. (I'm the oldest), so they don't have to face these difficulties. Still, I can't help but feel a little jealous to see them get their driver's licenses, receive FAFSA support and go off to study in New York. I'm glad to have found a place to vent, and share these things. And I'm overjoyed at the opportunity presented by DACA, though I wish things would move along. My one regret as a DREAMer, is that I was silent while so many others, much braver than me, raised their voices through non-violent protest. DACA is still a far cry from allowing us to fully realize ourselves as Americans, but it's a hard won step along the way, possible thanks to the courage of youths like the ones on these forums.

Allow me to contribute - The title is 'Jodida Pero Contenta' - which basically means (and kindly excuse my French) 'Fucked Up but Happy.' It basically represents my situation right now (waiting for frickin Nebraska)... Indulge your ears!

A United States congressman has introduced a bill that would repeal the 22nd Amendment, which currently limits the president to serving only two terms as commander-in-chief. Should the bill become a law, it could allow President Barack Obama to run for reelection yet again in 2016. The bill, H.J. Res. 15, offers ā€œan amendment to the Constitution of the United States to repeal the twenty-second article of amendment, thereby removing the limitation on the number of terms an individual may serve as President.ā€ New York Democratic Rep. Jose Serrano reintroduced the measure on January 4, after it did not make it to a floor vote in January 2011, the Daily Caller reports. Serrano has attempted to repeal the amendment for decades and proposed similar bills in 1997, 1999, 2001, 2003, 2005, and 2007. Rep. Serranoā€™s initiatives are not dependent on any particular party, since he has tried to get the measure passed under the presidencies of both Democrats and Republicans. But if the bill makes it to the floor for a vote this year, President Obama, a Democrat, might have a chance at a third term in the White House, which would make him the first president to possibly seek a third term since Franklin Roosevelt. Even though a repeal has not made it far in Congress, there have been several attempts at bringing it to the floor, which have garnered support from past presidents and prominent legislators. Rep. Steny Hoyer (D-Md.) repeatedly proposed repealing the 22nd Amendment while both Bill Clinton and George W. Bush were in office, and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell tried to repeal it in 1995. In 1989, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) introduced a similar resolution. Former President Ronald Reagan told Barbara Walters in a 1986 interview that the 22nd Amendment ā€œwas a mistake,ā€ while former President Bill Clinton has always believed in the option for a president to seek reelection at a later time ā€“ even if he has already served twice. ā€œShouldnā€™t a president be able to take two terms, take time off and run again?ā€ Clinton said in an MSNBC interview in November. ā€œIā€™ve always thought that should be the rule. I think as a practical matter, you couldnā€™t apply this to anyone who has already served, but going forward, I personally believe that should be the rule.ā€ Repealing the 22nd Amendment has been supported by both Democrats and Republicans, but has never garnered enough votes to go into effect. Congress passed the 22nd Amendment on March 21, 1947. It was ratified by 41 states and rejected by only two. It limits each president to two terms, but did not apply to the sitting president, former President Harry Truman, who withdrew as a candidate for re-election in 1952. Well Now that the California Dream Act is in action you can apply for Either BOG Fee Waiver or FAFSA for whichever school you are going to. I go to SMC, and I applied for the BOG for Spring Semester. However you can apply for FAFSA as well. Talk to a counselor at your school taramo35

California does have the California Dream Act. which entitles an undocumented student to apply for and receive non-state funded scholarships for public colleges and universities. this 1st link is the link for the instructions for the California Dream Act app. http://www.csac.ca.gov/pubs/forms/grnt_frm/2013-14_california_dream_application_instructions.pdf 2nd link is for the application itself http://www.csac.ca.gov/pubs/forms/grnt_frm/2013-14_paper_dream_application.pdf 3rd link is for the worksheet http://www.csac.ca.gov/pubs/forms/grnt_frm/2013-14_dream_application_worksheet.pdf i dont know, where you applied for school, but it is worth a try to talk to the financial aid department and ask them what your options are and if the California Dream Act applies to community and junior colleges as well.

Didn't they pass the California Dream Act? I think in addition to in-state tuition, if you're low income you get financial aid. They have restrictions like you have to have graduated or attended a California High School for 3 years. I know it applies to all the public colleges and universities so maybe. I'm not 100% sure. Maybe ask an advisor. I also know that in New York the CUNY's offer financial aid to anyone as long as you qualify for it. Good luck
