No! You can apply right away as soon as you get your SSN! As we speak, I'm on my way to the DMV to take my test.. I applied for my California ID yesterday! Get started ASAP! Never listen to what you hear and go with your gut tells you to! The worst thing they can say is come back another day.. But take my case for instance, if you're determined, go for it!

Yes, Also depends on how much evidence you have provided..the more you sent, the more chance your case gets approved faster.. -
Just left DMV and got a Cali ID.. Might go next week to take my written exam on Monday for my DL!! Yay!!!!

Pswa83 yes sir! They didn't even need to see it, the lady was just like "I don't need to see it, I just need you to write your SSN on your application" lol so I applied yesterday... Got my thumb print and picture taken...thinking about taking my DL written one today...not sure yet though but I just might!

My friend who was in the same situation as me gave me advice to wait 3 days from when I get my ssn print out because he said when he did his, he was told to wait3 days...but I took a chance yesterday and I guess my ssn was already in the system and updated...good thing I went...same thing with waiting 10 days after your EAD...completely false... So get started as soon as you guys can! Never wait.. Just go for it..because we've been taking risks and chances all our lives..so why stop n...

Going back to the SS office to get my number today! Apply for jobs, credit cards.. And does anyone know if we can go to the DMV to get an ID/DL or have to wait couple of days for the DMV to get caught up and be updated with SSA with the new numbers?

I went at 9 this morning, the lady said wait 10 days...and I went back again around 1 pm today hoping i wont get the same person that accomodated me this morning, thank goodness i got someone else! FIRST, fill out the form when applying for SSN for the first time...THEN present your EAD, Birth Certificate, and Passport...Birth Certificate was KEY to the office i went to. they looked for my birth certficate more than they paid attention to my passport. THEN ask me a couple of questions....I then asked when can I get my number and she said physical card gets to me about 2 weeks...BUT come back Thursday and they will have my number...they can print if out and give it to me!! NO NEED TO WAIT 10 DAYS! some people just doesnt know what they're doing! Im so happy I went back today! AHH!!

Ok!! I wen back to social security today.. After I went this morning telling me to wait 10 days! NOT TRUE!!! I went back and I got processed!! Good thing I went back after this morning.. Going back on Thursday to get my number!! And 2 weeks to get the physical card.

Ok so I went to apply for a SSN today and yet told me to come back after 10 days! I guess to be safe, wait 10 days from the issue date of your EAD although some were able to apply couple of days after.. I guess it depends where you go? I applied in San Francisco.. Bring ead, passport, and birth certificate! 3 are key items they look for! Good luck!

I believe oct 8 is when the card is made? No idea.. Her but atleast you got it already.. I'm hoping mine gets here tomorrow.. Since it was sent on Friday..

Exactly.. It's just for use within the city.. It isn't accepted like state ID or DL's just like the one I have.. My city ID isn't accepted in cities outside San Francisco! Hope this clears it up for you! And the proof of residence you use to get an ID are utility bills, pay stubs, bank statements that has you address in within the past month.. Has to be SF or LA addresses.. And a foreign passport or DL/ID

Also, if you changed your name and apperance, you are qualified to get this ID in SF as well since there is a lot of trans genders her in the city of SF

I have a City of San Francisco ID card.. I believe its the same one in LA...only San Francisco residents are allowed to get one..if you live South SF then you are out of luck getting an identification. Theese ID cards are for people who are undocumented and cannot get Drivers License/CA ID's since they dont have SSN...this helps people to have proper identification..also will help open banks and get library cards.. on the back of this card, it says on bold emergency contacts and NOT FOR USE ON PURCAHSE OF TOBACCO N ALCOHOL... these cards are only for the city it is issued on...I went to Sacramento and other placess who asked for an ID and they did not accept my City of SF ID since its only valid for the city it is issued..

I have talked to one on "Instagram" that got his SSN already...He's from Cali like me and he said He applied to get a SSN 2 days after he got his EAD... he got his on Sept 29 (Sat) and applied for SSN on Oct 1 (Monday) and so I asked him if it ws true if they make you wait 10 days after you recieve your EAD...I guess the lady told him he had to wait 10 days plus possibly 2 weeks..but he said that wasnt the case because he got his SSN in a WEEK, he said he got it on OCT 9..couldve been oct 8, but oct 8 was a holiday...

Yes, SSN doesn expire...she just means she has a SS Card with the "NOT VALID FOR EMPLOYMENT" when your status changes, they give you a different card, BUT THE SAME SS NUMBER...She now will get the "Valid for employment with DHS authorization" we all will...since theres 3 diff types of SSN Cards 1) for US Citizens/Green card holders 2) Valid for employment with DHS authorization and 3) not valid for work (mostly for senior citizens that can get benefits) but isnt valid to us for work..

I See, I looked at the Renew license on DMV i believe it just need the last 4 of SSN..and just payment...if its renewed online...hmm..i mean as long as we have a SSN cant we just renew our ID/License?

I planning to apply for a SSN on Tuesday, will they be able to give you your number tha day of? And then just wait for the physical card to arrive later so we can apply for an ID or drivers license ASAP? Btw, I heard the physical card should get to you in a week...

LMAO!! Same thing happened to me today!! I got so many text messages!! And every time I did, I kept checking my status!! BTW you got the text yesterday being approved right? Did you get texts today saying your card has been picked up? Or shipped? Curious on when I should be expecting mine should come? I'm so excited!!!
