So I got both my state ID and DL in California and my Cali ID is valid for 6 yrs n exp in 2018 and California Drivers License valid for 5 years and expires in 2017... Please make this a post on how long the validity of your DL's and State ID's are valid for each state. I'm curious because I heard that DMV will issue state ID n DL based on the exp date of your EAD...which wasn't the case for mine. Thank you! FYI: My state ID came in the mail 11 days after I applied and my Drivers License came in at exactly 7 days/a week from when I passed my behind the wheel driving test. So just in case you guys are wondering on how long the waiting period is for these ID's.

Ok, so I have gotten my SSN print out yesterday and already applied for a California ID yesterday...and soon will take the written for a DL! My advice to everyone it GET STARTED RIGHT AWAY! Yes, I understand that people have been told to wait 10 days after your EAD was made! This is COMPLETELY FALSE! The same thing happened to me Tuesday...I went to Social Securtiy Office at 9 am and was told to come back in 10 days...I was disappointed...so what I did was... I went back to the same office around 1 pm and got someone else to help me...and she started filing my paper work right away... MAKE SURE YOU FILL OUT THE SSN FORM THEY HAVE IN THE OFFICE IF YOU ARE GETTING A SSN FOR THE FIRST TIME, with your EAD card, and birth certificate (which was the main document they wanted in the Daly City California office). After that, I asked when can I get my number, and she told me to come back THURSDAY and they will have my brand new SSN printout.. The physical card will come in the mail about 7-10 days.. As soon as I got my SSN printout, I went straight to the DMV and applied for a California ID...didn't take the DL written test yet cause I wanted to study more...lol... But prior to this, a friend gave me advice to wait 3 days after my print out of my SSN so DMV can get caught up with the Social Security update...but I took a chance and still went anyways...when I got to DMV I filled out the form, showed them my EAD and the process went smooth from there. I was waiting for them to tell me to wait 3 days, BUT they didn't which I sighed with relief...My friend who was in the same situation as me before gave me advice to wait 3 days from when I get my ssn print out because he said when he did his, he was told to wait3 days...but I took a chance yesterday and I guess my ssn was already in the system and updated...good thing I went...same thing with waiting 10 days after your EAD...completely false... So get started as soon as you guys can! Never wait.. Just go for it..because we've been taking risks and chances all our lives..so why stop now? I HOPE THIS GIVES YOU GUYS A CLEAR INSIGHT ON WHAT TO DO AFTER YOU GET YOUR SSN AND EAD's! GET STARTED RIGHT AWAY!

Ok it is 9:30 am here in San Francisco and I just left Social Security! PLEASE PLEASE if you want to make sure you get a SSN when you go, just wait 10 days from when your EAD was issued. This lady told me my EAD was fairly new and have to wait 10 days.. So se told me to come back on the 22nd which was complete BS!! I know and read some people have been told the same thing but others were able to apply couple of days after they obtained their EAD card! Please bring the following items as well when you go, 1) EAD card 2) Foreign Passport 3) Birth Certificate! Those 3 are key! Although there are some items on their list that you can bring as well.. But those 3 are the things they look for.

Anyone getting both Drivers License and ID? I know I will..lol knowing that applying for SSN takes about a week to get ur card then if you take ur written at the DMV, you have to wait for the actual for 2 weeks, so might as well have an ID while waiting lol...BTW anyone know if they can give you your SSN the day of and then wait for the physical card later in the mail so you can get an ID/Drivers license while you wait for the physical card? Also, Does anyone know if the Drivers License OR ID will expire the same time you EAD card does...I know your Drivers license will be "limited" and will expire the same time your EAD, but will it be the same for an ID? I also found out that you can renew your license online...if an EAD isnt valid anymore, and since SSN doensnt expire, will it still be in effect to be able to renew your License/ID....what are you guys' thoughts on these... ??

Ok, so I have a question! I know that EAD's are valid for 2 years and are renewable, but if you get a SSN, a SSN doesn't expire! If you don't renew your EAD, will your SSN still be valid and will it still be valid to use to get credit cards and renew ID's and Drivers license later on in the future? I believe that if you go to DMV to get a Drivers license and you only show your EAD, they will give you a DL that will expire the same time your EAD does...but if you have a SSN (which I believe will say authorized to work with DHS consent) I believe they will give you a regular ID or license that isn't "limited" right? I just want to really know what will happen to our SSSn since SSN doesn't expire.. Will it still be valid?

Anyone else having to wait longer for their Approval Notice after their Biometrics date? Mine was on September 21, 2012 ... 2 weeks ago.. anyone else waited longer?

Did your dad drive you to the DMV? You need someone with a valid drivers license to go with you to the DMV!

Yes, I have. I bank with Bank of America and when I applied, they approved me just recently. Go in at the bank you bank with and try not to do it online.. I believe it's easier to get one when you talk to someone inside the bank? If you do not have a bank account, open one first with a checking n a savings then open a credit card later.

In Cali, you only need your SSN and EAD

Apply as soon as you can! Once you get your EAD you can apply

You can, but just to make sure, you can ALWAYS bring your foreign passport! You can use that as well!

YES! You can use that for ID!

Expect wait times to get longer now that the election is over and Obama is re elected, more and more people will apply!
