In Cali, you only need your SSN and EAD

I have talked to one on "Instagram" that got his SSN already...He's from Cali like me and he said He applied to get a SSN 2 days after he got his EAD... he got his on Sept 29 (Sat) and applied for SSN on Oct 1 (Monday) and so I asked him if it ws true if they make you wait 10 days after you recieve your EAD...I guess the lady told him he had to wait 10 days plus possibly 2 weeks..but he said that wasnt the case because he got his SSN in a WEEK, he said he got it on OCT 9..couldve been oct 8, but oct 8 was a holiday...

Wrong! You need a SSN to apply for a credit card.. And you DO NOT start with a 700 credit score, it takes years to build and establish good credit!

once you obtain your SSN, you can apply for a DL. you have to take the written test and IF you pass, they will give you a permit. That permit will allow you to be able to drive WITH someone in the car with a DL. Having a permit though does NOT allow you to drive by yourself. IF you are 18 and under, I believe you have to wait 6 months to take the actual behind the wheel test. IF you are 18 and older, you can take the behind the wheel test anytime you are ready. This applies in California..I am not sure about what other states do, but i believe it is the same.

So I got both my state ID and DL in California and my Cali ID is valid for 6 yrs n exp in 2018 and California Drivers License valid for 5 years and expires in 2017... Please make this a post on how long the validity of your DL's and State ID's are valid for each state. I'm curious because I heard that DMV will issue state ID n DL based on the exp date of your EAD...which wasn't the case for mine. Thank you!
FYI: My state ID came in the mail 11 days after I applied and my Drivers License came in at exactly 7 days/a week from when I passed my behind the wheel driving test. So just in case you guys are wondering on how long the waiting period is for these ID's.

NO, you do not need to apply for Cali ID if you dont want to. You can apply for the DL...take the written test and if you pass, they will give you a permit...then after, you can schedule a behind the wheel test. I only applied for both because I was curious on how many years they give me on my Cali ID..which they gave me 6 years on my Cali ID. I am hoping they give me a 5 yrs DL! I also applied for a Cali ID so I can have an ID first while I am waiting for my DL to come..I wasnt sure if I was going to take my DL test yet or not but was anxious to get everything over with..so I did it in a week. lol

Biometrics are done to verify your background and identity. If you NEVER committed a crime before and all your paper works are legit then you have NOTHING to worry about. But if you lied on your application, then there is a chance your application will be denied. Simple as that!

Hello infusion! And thanks Itzel! lol anyways, I received my California ID today and is valid for 6 years...expires in 2018! Once you have applied for your SSN, you are able to obtain a print out from SOcial Security of your SSN...I applied Tuesday and went back to the office Thursday to get a print out of my number...after that, I went straight to DMV and applied for a California ID...I just filled out the form, wrote my SSN and showed them my EAD as a proof of residency...took my thumb print and photo and 11 days later I got my Cali ID...I am now just waiting for my Drivers license which I passed last Thursday...waiting for the card. Yes, Also depends on how much evidence you have provided..the more you sent, the more chance your case gets approved faster..

Ok, so I have gotten my SSN print out yesterday and already applied for a California ID yesterday...and soon will take the written for a DL! My advice to everyone it GET STARTED RIGHT AWAY! Yes, I understand that people have been told to wait 10 days after your EAD was made! This is COMPLETELY FALSE! The same thing happened to me Tuesday...I went to Social Securtiy Office at 9 am and was told to come back in 10 days...I was disappointed...so what I did was... I went back to the same office around 1 pm and got someone else to help me...and she started filing my paper work right away... MAKE SURE YOU FILL OUT THE SSN FORM THEY HAVE IN THE OFFICE IF YOU ARE GETTING A SSN FOR THE FIRST TIME, with your EAD card, and birth certificate (which was the main document they wanted in the Daly City California office). After that, I asked when can I get my number, and she told me to come back THURSDAY and they will have my brand new SSN printout.. The physical card will come in the mail about 7-10 days.. As soon as I got my SSN printout, I went straight to the DMV and applied for a California ID...didn't take the DL written test yet cause I wanted to study more...lol... But prior to this, a friend gave me advice to wait 3 days after my print out of my SSN so DMV can get caught up with the Social Security update...but I took a chance and still went anyways...when I got to DMV I filled out the form, showed them my EAD and the process went smooth from there. I was waiting for them to tell me to wait 3 days, BUT they didn't which I sighed with relief...My friend who was in the same situation as me before gave me advice to wait 3 days from when I get my ssn print out because he said when he did his, he was told to wait3 days...but I took a chance yesterday and I guess my ssn was already in the system and updated...good thing I went...same thing with waiting 10 days after your EAD...completely false... So get started as soon as you guys can! Never wait.. Just go for it..because we've been taking risks and chances all our lives..so why stop now? I HOPE THIS GIVES YOU GUYS A CLEAR INSIGHT ON WHAT TO DO AFTER YOU GET YOUR SSN AND EAD's! GET STARTED RIGHT AWAY!

CORRECT! They will have your number before ur physical card gets to you, that's what I did, I went Tuesday to apply and went back Thursday to get a printout of my SSN! They should tell you when to come back if you want your SSN to get a head start! I'm determined and prepared myself, so as soon as I got my ssn, I was ready for my drivers license test because I studied and had the handbook 2 months prior to gettin approved!
