  1. If you got a RFE, now what?

Include everything you find it's better to overload their desk than not to send enough
  2. Graduate School As A Daca Recipient

It seriously drives me nuts to see how there are so many talented hardworking people on this forum and there are probably way many more out there who haven't joined and most of us have to be content with half of what we can really accomplish. I guess that is the case in most aspects in life when you aspire to bigger and better things all the time. But it's nice to meet you all here. Because I can see our hardwork and ambition will soon prove who we are to those who have the chance and hardly ever aknowledge it.
  3. Hi I'm Armando

  6. Long Name

Hey I had a problem fitting all my names and last names so the person at the DMV explained to me that even if you shorten your name which I had to do, your legal name is the one on your SSN. On my DL I only have my name and two last names but at work I have to go by my name middle initial and two last names. If you wish to drop your mother's maiden name you need to do it legally.
  7. Applied For Ss (:

Congrats on getting to this point. It does change your life. The biggest shock is living a dream when we once thought it was never going to be real. Keep it up and go accomplish more goals
  8. Music Sharing

Here is a little bit of my heritage. I love this video because it reminds me of where I once lived and will soon visit. I don't lose hope I will see the Guatemalan skies again. Arjona and Gaby are talented but this video blows my mind away for the scenery.
  9. I hadn't heard of this before. Could it be that they have more agents working on files now?

  16. College Application Help :) Thanks

Hi there, On financial aid for us. Let me tell you what I did to attend a really good private institution. First, I applied to about 8 schools including State Univerisities, private colleges and community ones. Then waited until I got their finacial letter saying how much they awarded me for merit and other stuff. By far the private institution was the best deal for me. I suggest to all DREAMERS to apply to private schools. They award more merit based scholarships than any other schools. Then, I attended every single scholarship events this school had to see if I could earn extra scholarships. I also did research on the side on private and local scholarships including those coming from private foundations. I made sure most of them were renewable. Once I had my foot in the school, I was able to afford going for a year without a problem. But the second year was the tricky one. I had to go to the financial aid office and meet with the head of the department. I explained to her my situation and how I REALLY wanted to continue my education. She pulled up my transcript and of course that helped a lot so she said to fill out FAFSA in paper as if I were able to qualify and to hand it to her. She also asked for my parents income proof and of course we qualified. What this person did was pull funds from FAFSA after everyone had been granted with their money because what happens is that apparently once the semester passes the leftover funds are free to go to any student and FAFSA doesn't require them to report back per say. I heard this happens in state universities as well. I would suggest having the courage to go talk to the financial aid person and explain exactly what your situation is. You never know you might get lucky and have a really nice person like I did. On top of scholarships, "FAFSA" I also paid for my school from my own pocket. I had 2 jobs while in college during the weekends --- NO LIFE, LAB RAT over here. So I gave up partying for the most part .. yes sometimes I decided I needed a break.. and paid for a good chunk of my education. My parents also helped with a payment plan every year. You can set them up with the school or a private company. They charge like $60 for enrolling and split the payments during the school year. Summary - Going to college was not easy I had to SACRIFICE a lot including a social life some semesters. Do I regret it NO! - Apply to a ton of schools. - Look for scholarships, attend scholarship events - write awesome essays to get scholarshios - Get a job and save, keep the job during college - Get good grades - Meet with finacial aid and explain situation - Set up a payment plan - Work hard and finish no matter what! Anyways that is how I was able to graduate from an awesome school in a nut shell.

  20. 2 Receipts In The Mail?

It went well I just walked through the metal detector and they handed me a form to fill out with my personal info and case number. Then I left it in a box and they called me. The agent was super nice and kept joking. He took my fingerprints, a picture and my signature. He handed me a quick survey and wished me luck. I was done in 5 mins.
  21. 2 Receipts In The Mail?

I only received one letter in the mail at first. As long as you receive the biometrics apt letter you are good.
  22. The penalties and consequences vary among states. Some consider it a crime and you can get a court citation which could lead to a judge reporting you to ICE. Other states are less strict. I think it's safer not to risk it and wait for DACA. You never know if the police officer is against immigrants.
  23. Hello From A White-Afro-Venezuelan From Orlando :)

Hi Afrosana! Thanks for sharing your story. Loving the Afro!!! Hope you can help us out with the forums.
  24. Credit Declined

US Bank seems to be a little better about granting us credit. Try that one. It is not bad to do banking business with 2 different banks. Also, I applied for a phone today and I had to pay a deposit but in the long run these things will help build our credit score.
  25. 2 Receipts In The Mail?

I think it takes about 2-3 weeks after they re locate your packet to the right service center. When did you send yours? Post a timeline if you wish.
