I don’t think much will change with me. I have a great professional job that pays well. I graduated from a great college a while back. I had DL from a Hawaii… no legal proof was needed years ago… For me just the peace of mind of having it!! In addition, starting a life where I won’t have to get clever to work and live here in the US. Fist, I am very glad that we have this forum. It is nice to see how each and one of us is going through this amazing journey in getting our DA/EA. On that note, I would like to make some recommendations: 1. I agree with the previous suggestion. Have a section where we could go to get further information on a variety of different topics relating to this whole process of "adjusting our status" and starting our lives "partly documented". For example, links to get applications for the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals and a Social Security. In addition, many us will soon get credit cards, loans, and drivers license as a result, we will need information as to how and where to obtain them. For example, inks to all the states where one can get the requirements to apply for a drivers license. 2. The forums needs to be better organized. You should place categories where people can place their comments. For example on the Dream Act Questions and Answers you have to many discussion and is very difficult to follow. A way to accomplish this would be to place all questions about SS under one category and others with their corresponding topic. 3. Also, If someone post a question and someone answers it, the user who asked the question should be notified that a respond has been posted. No, there is not a fee to apply for a social security card. All I was asked to show was my passport, work authorization card, and the application filled out. Once you apply fort it should take about two weeks for you to get in the mail. However, your number should be generated within 24 to 48 hours after you apply and you can then go back to the Social Security Office and request a paper print out of your number. It can take longer for them to generate a number if you have a common name. I have a very common name, so I was told that before a number could be given to me, it would have to be cleared by management to make sure that in fact I didn't have a number. But, it all worked out at the end. When I got approved, the status on website indicated that it could take up to 30 days for the card to arrive. But mine came in the mail soon after getting approved for both DA and for work authorization. Also, I got approved for my EAD first.
