College Application Help :) Thanks

You will - You have shown commitment and determination so far, and that goes a long way. Just don't wish to transfer to a University, or say 'I want...' for that matter... Instead, visualize it. See yourself in it. DO IT. Better yet, see yourself as an Eng Graduate! -
Wow! I am speechless... Very impressive documentary. I believe it has mass appeal, since it evokes nostalgia, understanding, and hope. From a Dreamer's perspective, it can be somewhat emotional, since so many people can relate, to some extent, to the situations described in the documentary. You guys did a great job! BTW - Welcome to the forum PS - something tells me you are MS. Correct me if I am wrong?

Graduate School As A Daca Recipient
Santi replied to roadrunner11's topic in Life After Deferred Action
In my case, I would also need to be a resident/citizen or have a student visa...Tuition is more or less the same for everyone in my schools of interest, regardless of nationality. Even when I tried to go back to school for an additional major, I had to be readmitted because I had already graduated. Then, I was told that I would be charged as an international student unless I showed 'proof of residency.'------> work permit, green card, or blue passport.- 11 replies

Community College .... Is There Any Financial Help For Undocumented Students ?
Santi replied to taramo35's topic in General Discussions
Every state is different, let alone each institution. You should really look into the opportunities that Pswa mentioned regarding Financial Aid for Dreamers in Cali... Take advantage of everything and get educated! -

I lived there for a while... First I lived in the South Bronx (Crotona park, close to Southern Blvd and Boston Rd - about 5 mins from the zoo/Fordham), and then I lived by Woodlawn Cemetery, south from Yonkers. Also, when taking the scenic route, I used to drive down the Bx River Pkwy, on to Bruckner, and would cross into the city by the RFK bridge, and would get off on Harlem to take Park Ave south... See? New Yorker by heart son! -

Before I start, I just want clarify the fact that I had a case with USCIS before, so that allowed me to enjoy a Work Permit, SSN, DL, among others...for the full story, go here: http://forum.adreama...is-is-my-story/ On to the answers: After being stuck in this situation, it somewhat affected me. At the time I found out, I was in a relationship and my girlfriend knew of my situation. However, I still took the risk to drive around and go places. Before summer of 2012, we parted ways since she wanted to go back to Colombia, and I went to live in NYC for like 5 months. After coming back to Miami, I have been stuck at home for most of the time and have not gone out as much. Therefore, I have not been able to promote myself. That being said, I am in no rush. I have plans right now, and I don't want to go out lookin' for love... you find it when you least expect it. It has affected me significantly. It is really hard to find a steady source of income, although I have been able to secure some projects that pay relatively well. However, they are not consistent and sometimes far apart, so I have to carefully manage whatever income I am able to receive. I am very reserved and not reveal much of my situation. Some of my closest friends and college buddies know what I am going through, and many provide me with their support. That being said, when a stranger asks me about my legal status, I just tell them that I am a resident. If they ask me if I have been back home (Colombia), I just tell them that I have been busy with school or with other projects and I plan to go for vacation at the end of the year, if I decide to. See above answer. Since I was given the opportunity to have work permit and ssn, I was able to go to college and get my degree. However, during the time I spent in a company I was working at, I was able to determine what it is that I want to pursue: I am going to be an Investment Banker, and work either in Lower Manhattan or The City of London. In order to accomplish that career switch, I have to go to Business School, and it is really competitive to do so. However, if I was able to endure the uncertainty this situation brings, I am able to endure anything (plus, I was re-baptized in a fire hydrant in the Bronx, so I can make it anywhere ) As a closing statement, let's keep fighting for our dreams. Look at the big picture and maximize your full potential. According to Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs, a human's most important need is the need of Self-Actualization, after all others have been fulfilled. Strive for that one - the top of the pyramid! PS Dennis - Unazungumza Kiswahili?? If so, Nimefurahi kukutana na wewe! 1) LMFAO - whaaaat? 2) Keep your dream alive...you will eventually have your Criminal Justice degree sooner rather than later... In regards to the Churros... Keep making that money girl! -

Sorry, but FAFSA is only awarded to Citizens and Permanent Residents. However, certain States and/or institutions will provide some form of 'Financial Aid' to individuals like ourselves. My suggestion, apply for scholarships to make sure you get a significant portion of tuition taken care of. In addition, consult with some of the other dreamers in the forum who have attended college while undocumented. Some found great individuals within the universities they attended that helped them take advantage of loop holes in FAFSA, Fin Aid offices, etc, and were able to cover the costs of tuition, room and board, among others. Roadrunner has some great insight regarding what I explained above. Hopefully, she will be so kind as to share her thoughts... -

Select Resident Alien (immigrant), and write down both your A# and expiration date on the corresponding places. That is what I did when I applied to college and never had an issue. During the time of my application, I had a work permit and SSN ONLY, so I have been there. I am not sure how much they will scrutinize your application, if they do it, but the probability of it happening is very slim. Either way, take the chance - you won't regret it -

If you get a job that requires you to travel, if you study abroad, or if you join the peace corps, by all means apply for parole. If none of the above apply, don't even bother. Enough said.
