  1. Entire Senate Bill Text Released

According to the requirements and the descriptions provided above, the Certificate Program might qualify as long as you receive it from a vocational school... Like I posted before, if you can get your certificate from a Jr. College, you will be better off than attending those other 'Career Colleges.' Your education will be significantly better, tuition will be lower, and your credits - most of the time - will be transferable to other institutions of higher learning, unlike those earned in a career college...

Do it! Here is a video about Everest - make sure you enroll! (Disclaimer - some explicit language, but it gets the point across)
  3. Entire Senate Bill Text Released

Absolutely! It is a post-secondary degree, so go ahead and pursue that opportunity... I visited MassBay and it looks like a traditional junior college, and not the for profit institutions described in the documentary...so, if it meets your goals, enroll whenever you can! Perhaps after your Paralegal certificate, you can pursue other certificates that complement your previous training...that way, you will be more than able to qualify for the PR after the bill is passed (if it does - fingers crossed)...

It doesn't matter if you went to College or not...what matters is that if you didn't, you have 5 years to get some sort of advanced degree in order to qualify for PR... I believe that they are giving us this opportunity to basically become skilled labor, and not just another average joe/jane...Hence, the requirements... Since I have always supported a higher education, I encourage every single individual that has not had the opportunity to get some sort of post secondary education, to go ahead and enroll in any program (associate's, bachelor's, technical, etc etc), whenever your particular condition allows you too... It is an investment of time and money, but it will more than pay off in the future... However, Caveat Emptor... Beware of for profit institutions that are super expensive and basically drain your funds, and become a super long term liability...these are U of Phoenix, Everest, ITT, etc... I would suggest attending an accredited institution like a community college, junior college, for tech/associate's, and accredited universities like State Us or Private Us...There is a huge difference between private and for-profit... Here is a documentary that will basically shed light into these for profit institutions...after this, you are more than welcome to make your decision...just wanted you to become more informed in regards to higher ed: http://video.pbs.org/video/1485280975/ It is about 50 mins - but you will be 50 mins smarter

They want to put some metrics in place regarding border security... If those metrics are met, I guess that is a green light for undocumented immigrants - maybe the situation will be a little different for us, since we are already part of a process... Let us just wait and see...

Very interesting... Now, this is my personal query which perhaps covers the interests of some of us here as well: I plan to go to grad school in the near future (maybe 2 years). In order to do so, I need to take a standardized test, the GMAT (Business School), which is similar to the LSAT (Law School), MCAT (Med School). Assuming that the bill passes with flying colors, I wonder how this new 'Legal Status' will enable us to take those Tests, let alone attending universities for advanced degrees. As it stands, I guess the majority of us (excluding CA residents - correct me if I am wrong) won't be able to qualify for Financial Aid, or several other grants offered by the government, and will have to resort to private loans to finance our studies ($100k, @ LIBOR + 2% from a bank = a lot of money to repay at the end of ~2yrs). I wonder if under this new provision, we will be able to tap the Treasury's coffers to finance our studies, with a promise to repay in the future... I don't know, but I would really like to know this, meng! I gots to keep my Nerd On Brah!
  17. Do yourself a huge favor - watch 'The Men Who Built America' - The Titans of Industry...and watch my name show up in the near future ;)

  20. Senate Immigration Bill Revealed

This is interesting... Some nice filters have been put in place, and they are not going to allow undocumented people to apply for RPI if they have not been here for around 2 years or more. Regarding the RPI itself, it is interesting that they will allow people with RPI to travel outside the US. I wonder what measures will be in place...will we get in trouble if we travel constantly? will there be a cap in the amount of time that we will be able to stay abroad? if so, how long is the cap? 1 month, 15 days? What if you are working for a multinational and have to work abroad for a longer period of time? What if you decide to join an NGO, and want to travel abroad for humanitarian reasons (peace corps, DWBs, etc etc)? In regards to the fine, I see how they have allocated the ~$2,000. $500 first to apply for RPI, $1,000 later to apply for a Green Card. I guess that is not taking into account application fees, which could make the fine somewhat higher. I also found interesting that taxes would be assessed...as in Sales Tax, as if we are buying something? or, will the taxes comprise the income taxes that were 'foregone' while we were here undocumented? If so, the fine could be significantly higher for some... We have to really analyze the ambiguous language used, since that is a staple of Common Law: language that is open to interpretation by a judge, with or without precedents... I also like how they have severed our wait time for a Green Card by half, and basically not having to wait to apply for citizenship, according to the outline...However, will it be wise to apply for citizenship right after receiving the Green Card? Perhaps we will have to wait some time (not three years) to apply for citizenship... As I read through the outline, the total cost to apply for citizenship, without taking into account 'income taxes,' attorney fees, and others, will be around $4000-5,000, which is right along my assumptions... Let us wait and see how this bill performs in congress...
  21. Need Help

  22. The application fee is about $500. The 'fine' will be about $1,500, according to the rough draft. Could be more, but I don't think it will be less. I wouldn't mind paying $5,000 if that would mean that I would be eligible for a Green Card in 2 years! Let's just see what is submitted to Congress. I know the 'reform talk' will be delayed due to the events in Boston... I guess we'll just have to be patient... ...yep, the Gif has nothing to do with the topic...big woop, wanna fight about it? lol
  23. Oh - If you are already approved and have any IDs(valid - DL, ID, etc)...feel free to fly around the US territory... If not approved, it is a little risky, but you could do it if you have a valid passport. I flew Miami-JFK-Miami last summer before being DACAmented, and had no issues whatsoever...I did get a little anxious in the TSA checkpoint, but other than that, it went very smoothly...
  24. Menina, I totally understand your frustration and believe, you, me...I share it with all my heart...I also want to travel and visit, and blah blah However, I would not mind waiting a couple more years, as long as I am able to work without any fear whatsoever...I would settle with a Permanent Residency with a ban to travel to Colombia for a couple of years...I don't mind at all... I just want to see some significant progress being made in the Hill...Enough is enough! Also, Rubio is full of shit! He doesn't know what a particular immigrant goes through...Cubans, although they are immigrants themselves, are the outliers...the exceptions to the rule...Wet Feet, Dry Feet allows them to be naturalized in about a year, as stated in the article and the law itself...So, I just want the media to stop highlighting his Cuban background, and I want to hear someone who genuinely understands what all of us go through... It would be awesome if we got the same treatment as the immigrants coming into Ellis Island did back in late 19th - early 20th century...Stamp, sign, welcome and go!
