SO, my sister and I have been working on a project for our town... Don't really know where it is going to be going at the moment pero I was looking for some advice... Thing is... There has been a lot of harrassment going on by the police in our town.. We live in a small town in Northeast Iowa and all of the illegal mexicanos there (my family included) discovered that in Minnesota you don't need a D.L. to register your vehicle/get plates. That given, we all have Minnesota plates and lately (for the past few months) the police in town have been following, stopping, ticketing, and in some cases harrassing the mexicanos. My sister and I have both been stopped, the police know where we work/live/what our schedules are. Other people have given us their statements and say that the cops search their vehicles without consent, barge into their houses without consent, and refuse to talk to a translator for the person that was stopped on the phone.... also in one case one officer made a pregnant lady who said she had to use the restroom (pregnant ladies pee a lot) walk a quarter of a mile AFTER making her wait a while and it was 1 a.m. and freezing!! Bottom line, we want to put an end to it!! My sister talked to the NAACP, I have contacted ACLU, we are filing reports of harrassment to the state of Iowa, but we just want to do more!! We want to raise awareness to this injustice and make it STOP!!! My sister and I have D.L.s now and no longer have to worry about it pero we aren't going to stop fighting for the rest of the people because its just unfair!! If anyone has any connections with any civil liberties groups, or has any suggestions, please please please please message me or email me!! My email number is at the bottom and I am willing to give my phone number once we've exchanged emails... We just really want this nightmare to end, because if anyone knows anything about Iowa, you know that the winters here are miserable!! I don't want these people to be freezing their butts off to walk miles to work or to live locked up in their houses with fear of going out! Gracias! Nilvia [email protected]

Okay... SO lots of ppl. are wondering and going crazy about this DACA application process. It's something that we've all been waiting for for years and now that it is finally here it's driving us all insane because the wait, knowing that it's just around the corner but not here yet, is killing us!! So, a lot of suggestions have been going around that certain factors determine the wait... I, for example, thought at first it depended on your education level (high school, college, etc), then I thought it depended on how long you've been in the country, what service center you're at, how many applicants live in your area, how much evidence you provided, if you applied through a lawyer or not, how neat your application is, and so many other factors.... But the reality is (I think) that there is NO designated processing time for the I-821D and consequently for the I-765... and a lot of ppl. who have been applying earlier are getting later responses. The reasons are unknown and yes, it's bad news to hear it but it's the truth. Below, I hijacked a post made by other members of this forum (sorry) and I hope this information will be helpful to all, again, I know it's kind of bad news that we just don't know but at least hopefully you won't believe all the other myths and determine your waiting game on that. I will say it one more time... No one knows what the processing time is for this application and all we can do is keep the faith and wait. Best of luck to everyone! Original Post: Hi my name is Erika. I submitted my paperwork in August 27. Today i called USCIS to see if i was able to get an update through them since i don't see anything happening only and it has been almost 90 days since i submitted my paper work. They informed me that USCIS has 90 days from the day they received my application to give me an answer on my work permit. If November 27 passes for me and i haven't received anything i need to call them and let them know so they can give me a provisional work permit. That will allow me to work legally until they reach a decision for my work permit case. To get an answer on the deferred action should take from 4 to 6 months. Hope this helps you. Good luck! Helpful Comment (the truth): # JoseG Posted 19 November 2012 - 08:32 PM JoseG Forum Moderator This is not true. It is a myth that has also spread onto the other forum. The reason this myth came to be, was that someone called USCIS wanting to know more information about their case. The USCIS representative asked that person for their Receipt Number, and that person gave the Customer Service Representative his I-765 Receipt Number, in which the USCIS employee told that person that there was a 90 day processing time for the I-765 application, but what the employee didn't know was that the I-765 was sent along with an I-821D application. You see, the problem with this is that, we didn't file an I-765 application by itself, because obviously we don't qualify for one. In order to qualify for an EAD card (I-765) we first need to be granted Deferred Action (I-821D) The I-821D form (DACA) has a processing time of 4-6 months. AFTER you have been granted DACA, is when you qualify for an I-765, therefore, that is when the 90 day processing time starts. People are still calling in and giving their I-765 Receipt Numbers and are still being told to call back after 90 days if they don't get a response on their I-765, even though the USCIS website clearly states that this doesn't apply to us, until our I-821D is approved. Someone who submitted a Service Request after waiting 90 days got a response today, and it says the following: Quote On 11/15/2012 you, or the designated representative shown below, contacted us about your case. Some of the key information given to us at that time was the following: Caller indicated they are: -- Applicant or Petitioner Attorney Name: -- Information not available Case type: -- I765 Filing date: -- 08/30/2012 Receipt #: -- EAC-12-908-96*** Referral ID: T1D**********VSC Beneficiary (if you filed for someone else): -- Information not available Your USCIS Account Number (A-number): -- ********* Type of service requested: -- Approaching Regulatory Time Frame The status of this service request is: You have filed Form I-821D, Consideration of Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals and Form I-765 c33 Application for Employment Authorization, which is based on the final adjudication of your I-821D. We have received your request stating that your I-765 application is approaching regulatory time frame. The Service cannot make a final decision on your I-765c33 until after a final decision has been made on your I-821D. The processing time for your I-765 will begin when a final decision is made on your I-821D Form. Unfortunately, agency guidelines do not allow for the expedited processing of Forms I-821D. Therefore, your forms will be processed in the order in which they were received. You should hear something from the Vermont Service Center within 60 days of this notice. If you have any further questions, please call the National Customer Service Center at 1-800-375-5283. Please remember: By law, every person who is not a U.S. citizen and who is over the age of 14 must submit Form AR-11 AND notify this office of their change of address, within 10 days from when they move (persons in "A" or "G" nonimmigrant status are exempt from this requirement). To notify this office of a move, visit our website at: www.uscis.gov or call the National Customer Service Center at 1-800-375-5283. The Form AR-11 can be downloaded from our website or you can call the National Customer Service Center at 1-800-375-5283 and we can order one for you. Instructions for filing the Form AR-11, including mailing instructions, are included on the Form. U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services

To anyone who has a parent/relative that is illegal like us and does NOT know English, I encourage YOU to encourage THEM to learn!! ENCOURAGEMENT!! :) :) Lots of talk has been circulating about possible immigration reform... One of the prerequisites, though, would be that they have to know English, my mother was always a firm beleiver that if you will be residing in a certain country, the least you can do is learn the language. So, I encourage you to get them to take classes (lots of organizations offer English classes) and if they cannot find any or cannot afford it or are too embarrassed to "go to school at such an old age" (I get this a lot! lol) then encourage them to get an online program or DVD program, something. Finally, if all else fails, YOU take the initiative (if you're up to it) and see if there's anyway you could teach them English... Our parents/relatives really deserve this opportunity and I wouldn't want ANYONE to miss out on this opportunity simply because of the language barriers... I have no certifications from anywhere but my local church gave me some English books and I also looked up course material online and have begun to teach English classes in my community... IF ANYONE wants guidance or thinks that they would be up for such a task, contact me!! I am more than willing to help and think it is SUCH a great cause!!! There's no better feeling than knowing you made a difference in someone's life! Best of luck!! AND please do encourage people to step up and take the initiative to learn the language so they aren't left behind!! PLEASE! Keep the faith and pass it on!! P.S. When my mom learned English, it boosted her self esteem and made her MUCH happier! Furthermore, she is able to do a lot more on her own. She thought she signed up for English classes but actually signed up for GED classes!! (lol) and now she speaks it very very well... It really honestly does help to watch shows in English and put Spanish subtitles on or vice versa!! And also, she learned in early 2000ish sooo Britney Spears, The Backstreet Boys, Destiny's Child, and Nsync really helped!! hahahahaha!!

Walk-in Biometrics--Anyone been denied a walk in appointment?
NilviaRR posted a topic in Dream Act Questions & Answers
I got my license last week and have been asked to take a kid from my town to his biometrics appointment... Another girl has her biometrics appointment just two days after the first kid, and also doesn't have a ride there... Has anyone been denied a walk-in appointment? I would really like to kill two birds with one stone and have this girl do hers the same day that I'm taking the other kid, because it's a 3-hr drive! Please comment BOTH if you WERE able to do a walk-in appointment and if you WERE NOT able to! Thanks!! -
Soo, I received my license last week and I am taking a kid from my town to his biometrics appointment because his parents don't know how to get there and are scared to take him since they don't have a license... I just wanted to make sure that if you are a minor, you don't need to have your parents come with you... Anyone who is under 18 and had their biometrics appointment already.. did you need your parent/guardian there??? I just don't want to take him all the way there (3 hr. drive) and find out he needs a parent/guardian there... 0_o

Ok, well my sister and I have been helping a lot of people in my town (small town) that have applied/are applying for the deferred action. We both got our EAD's last Friday (Happy Dance ) and we both applied wayy before everyone else in our town did. So we give them info, guidance, instructions, etc. Well, most of the kids went through a lawyer that the church provided after mass one day, they basically all filed it around that time, and they all had their applications double checked by that lawyer. No concern there, that lady was great and most of them now have biometrics appointments for this month. Well, there was one guy that filed his application before the rest of them and went through a separate lawyer, I have no idea who it was, we're trying to verify that... Bottom line is, he hasn't received anything at all... no letter saying they received anything, no texts, no emails, no biometric appointments, NOTHING... so my sister and I are pretty concerned... wondering if he ran into a pretty shady lawyer... Any recommendations on where to go from here?

Helloo to everyone!! Best of luck on all of your applications!! Ok well here's my story.. I was born in Mazatlan, Sinaloa.. When I was a year old, my mother decided to take me and my older sister to live in the U.S. because life with my biological father was full of suffering and poverty. So we came to California (mom y mi hermana crusaron asi de atiro como illegales, por la frontera con los coyotes, pero como yo solo tenia un ano, pase en carro como un bebe con papeles! haha ^-^) In Cali, mom worked a ton and later decided Cali was wayyy to dangerous to raise my sister, my new baby bro, and me, so we moved to Iowa. In Iowa we moved around a few times, til we got to where we are now, where we've been for almost a decade!! It was here in Iowa that my beautiful awesome amazing wonderful mother not only learned English, but also got her GED!! If there is one person in this world that I love more than anything in the world, it my mami!! So anyway, unlike most of you, I ALWAYS knew, since I was a little girl, that I was in this country illegally and I don't have as many opportunities as others do... PERO, my amazing mother always told me to just hang in there and keep trying!!! Thanks to her, I always did great in school and was able to get some scholarships that don't require an SSN, regardless, college is still wayyyy expensive! I am going to the University of Northern Iowa and lets just say its not cheap!! That's why Im soooo excited that I got my EAD last week and am only waiting for the SSN now! That's my life in a nutshell, but I guess I left out all the negatives... Yea, I've been (am) poor, yea I had a shitty stepfather, yea it's been hard to find decent jobs, yea I've gotten pullled over and ticketed a bunch of times, yea life isn't easy.... Pero saben que???? YO NO ME RINDO PORQUE SIEMPRE HAY ESPERANZA Y CON LA AYUDA DE DIOSITO Y LA VIRGENSITA, SI SE PUEDE!!!!!! Best of luck to everyone, I honestly hope that everyone's process goes as smoothly as mine, and no matter what, don't you ever give up!! Don't ever give anyone the pleasure of seeing you give up!! Cuz we've all probably encountered someone in our lives that said we won't or shouldn't make it, pero con una chingada ya dije que SI SE PUEDE!! Adios, y que Dios los acompane!!

Processing time for DACA applicants
NilviaRR replied to NilviaRR's topic in Dream Act Questions & Answers
Well don't stress out, folks! It's all reviewed case by case and obviously it's not a first come first serve scenario because a lot of ppl who applied earlier are getting answers later than later applicants... Pero it's great news, Audi, that you got approved already. Best of luck with the new opportunities headed your way!! -
ASI MERO, DIEGO!! What you just wrote hits sooo close to home for many of us!! It is unbelievable that after so much suffering and soo much waiting, we'll finally be able to live out our dreams!! Suerte con todo y que Dios te bendiga!!!
-
Hitania, just make sure you don't forget your birthcertificate!!
-
P.S. Don't think you're alone in having so many questions, that's why this site is around... to help everyone with their questions!!
-
Yes, Diego, the more info you provide the better... Also, try organizing your application really well with like manila folders for everything you have to provide evidence for. For example, have one folder with just I.D.'s... one folder for proof of enrollment and graduation from college... one folder for June 15, 2012.... one folder for the past 5 years (document at least every few months) And yes the consular I.D. is perfectly fine, that's what I sent in along with my college i.d. remember to put copies of everything, not originals!! Best of luck!!

Processing time for DACA applicants
NilviaRR replied to NilviaRR's topic in Dream Act Questions & Answers
*****CORRECTION***** USCIS does say that the wait time is 4-6 months... What I meant was that within this time frame, no one really knows what the wait is because some have been approved much sooner than others! Sorry about that! -
New information: how long it will take to receive an answer regarding your work permit
NilviaRR replied to Selene21's topic in Dream Act Questions & Answers
Jose G. You should pin this post or post it as a new topic. Very helpful information for those still waiting, I think.. It's unfair that ppl get so many different responses for how long it will take to get an answer when in reality we just don't know... I thought at first it depended on your education level (high school, college, etc), then I thought it depended on how long you've been in the country, what service center you're at, how many applicants live in your area, how much evidence you provided, if you applied through a lawyer or not, how neat your application is, and so many other factors.... But the reality is (I think) that there is NO designated processing time for the I-821D and consequently for the I-765... and a lot of ppl. who have been applying earlier are getting later responses. The reasons are unknown and I think your post is very helpful. It's not necessarily good news (that we don't know how long it will be) but it's definitely the truth. -
Stay positive!! This is probably the most nerve-wrecking, faith-testing wait you've had to experience, because we've waited for an opportunity like this for soooooooo long that it seems crazy that it's now here but its just months out of reach! All we can do is keep the faith and keep the patience!! I pray that your process and everyone else's begins to go more smoothly!!
-
Best of luck and welcome to the forums!!! You don't have a consular I.D.?
-
Yepp Three jobs!! In all fairness, the hours in total only come up to about 50-60 a week so it's not like im working 3 full time jobs with like 100+ hours!! lol No, not that many hours, though im lookin to apply for one full time and one part time job now that ive been approved so the schedules don't collide so darn much!! lol
-
Good luck!! And keep tryin if they don't let you! Remember that persistence pays off! lol Let us know how it went!

I didn't do a walk-in but took someone who did and she just said that she didn't have a ride on the other day and that I was only able to take her that day and she really didn't want to miss it, the peson was ok with it since it wasnt busy... I hear that if it isn't busy there at the station then you should be able to do them... Also, if it is busy when you go, go at a different time when it's not so busy and just keep trying! Best of luck!
