The best thing to do is speak to someone at the school, like the financial aid officer or the dean of student life. From what I heard, they are very nice and they would pull some strings to get you something, specially if they believe you are a bright student.

Yea, I would be careful about trying to open a credit card so soon. Most probably, you don't have the right amount of credit score to get approved and when ever you do try to open one and you get declined, it will affect your future FICO score. Remember, you need to establish your credit worth by having small utility bills, cell phone bill , and an apartment lease under your name, etc.. . And, make sure you accounts don't go in any kind of delinquencies if you are truly trying to establish a good credit score. If you are going to college, the prompt payments you make would also boost your rating. If you can find someone to cosign for you then you should be good. But, make sure you stay on top of your minimum payments.

Check the first 2 I-797(notice of action) letters you received. On the bottom, it would have an address listed and that location is the one processing your application.

According to this page from USCIS, If you live in new jersey you were suppose to send your application to Chicago lock box then they would forward your application to Vermont. But, you can check the first two I-797C(Notice of action) letter your received from USCIS. On the bottom of each letter, it should include an address of which USCIS location responded back to your application.

Have you tried calling the 800 # to talk to customer service ? If you have not, I would advise you to do so because that's a long time to get a letter for biometrics appointment.

Don't stress too much about it. There are plenty of people like you who haven't heard anything from USCIS (Including me). The only thing you can do is be patient and wait for a response. And, when you calculate the time for your application, you shouldn't include holidays and weekends because most offices are closed on those days. I am surprised that they waited that long to send an RFE. I thought they normally check the necessary requirements before the case went into initial review ? That's messed up ! they waited close to 3 mnt to send an RFE. sigh, wonder what excuse they will bring up to send me an RFE. The funny thing is my sis got approved in 28 days and I am still waiting plus we sent in similar documents. Except, the obvious differences ..................

I just have one question for you, have you came across a case where it got denied after it went in an initial review ? I am just curious about USCIS denying someone beside lack of evidence or for lacking basic required info.

Welcome to the forum. It is really hard to say why others are getting approved fast and others are not. For example, I am in a same situation as my sister but she got approved 28days after she did her bio and I have not heard anything yet, even thou we literally have the same evidence and asylum case. The only difference I can think of is that the person who handles each case would be different and how they decide to handle each case matters case by case. They can choose to scrutinize your application further or just approve it. All you can do at the moment is hope for the best and don't let it discourage you. I hope you hear something soon ! Thanks for the info Luna! I don't have no misdemeanor at all. Except, a citation for driving without a permit ... And, The whole family was asked to leave the country when our asylum got denied but my lil sister application was approved in 28day after she did her bio, so IDK whats dragging my approval. I just think all cases differ on who is handling the case cause from what it looks like, I've run into one mean reviewer. =( I hope you get approved soon too. Share the pics you take too...
