pswa83 replied to heffler21's topic in Dream Act Questions & Answers
being in the US on June 15, 2012 and being currently in the US are 2 of the requirements for DACA. i honestly do not think there is a way around it. -
Has anyone receive a letter for an infopass appointment!?
pswa83 replied to Ronny17's topic in Dream Act Questions & Answers
this is what i found from the USCIS website. http://www.uscis.gov/portal/site/uscis/menuitem.eb1d4c2a3e5b9ac89243c6a7543f6d1a/?vgnextoid=f183bd85ef149210VgnVCM100000082ca60aRCRD&vgnextchannel=f183bd85ef149210VgnVCM100000082ca60aRCRD granted that every case is different but in general, i dont think the an InfoPass is for interviews. usually USCIS will send you a letter with a time and date for the interview. -

i've heard of the InfoPass before. but i always thought that they were done because you, the applicant, scheduled one. never heard of USCIS making the InfoPass for an applicant. interesting -
they (USCIS) shouldnt have to get in contact with the dentist. if they feel like the documents you send are legit then there shouldnt be any problems. if USCIS wants more proof then they will send you a RFE and then you just go from there.

honestly, besides filing complaints there is not much you can do. the police has the right to stop cars with out of state license plates all they want. having worked for a retired sheriff, all the police has to do when they stop a car is say they have cause to search the car--if that "cause" is valid or not is something to be determined. also, i know in california you have 10 days to change your residency if you plan to make california your home. When my brother lived in Iowa, he also had to do the same--think the number of days may be different--but he had to change his license plates along with his drivers license. having a license plate from one state and a DL from a another state, looks fishy to law enforcement. with all the being said, i would, if i were you, look up what the laws are about video taping someone in Iowa and see if you can get some of what if going on on tape as proof. the reason being is because if you only file a complaint then it's basically a they said they said type of thing and with it being against a police officer, most likely not much is going to be done unless there is other evidence to back up the complaint. i have a double major, in criminal justice and criminal psychology so criminal aspect and criminal law is something i know a little about.

as far as federal student loans, i dont believe that we will be able to because we will only have legal presence and not legal status. i know in CA, one can qualify for CAL grants and private scholarship money but not federal monies. i would ask the bank you do business with or maybe go to the financial aid department at the school you go to or want to go to and see what your options are.

NP...any time. we all do from time to time

thanks. i dont think it will take longer. think about it. the sooner you do your bio the sooner your app and evidence gets looked at. even if you do go in earlier then your appt, they dont wait till your appt day to start looking at your app. keep your chin up

usually the turn around is about 48 hrs. i read it and also i believe it true because i got approved a week after my bio appt.

i think if you call again, what they might tell you is to make an appointment at a USCIS office in order to find out what's going on. they really dont tell you a lot on the phone, which i think is completely stupid, but yeah. so if you have a USCIS office close to you then i would make an appointment to see what's going on. this link is to find a field office near you. https://egov.uscis.gov/crisgwi/go?action=offices.type&OfficeLocator.office_type=LO and this link is to setup an InfoPass appt. you'll need it for the appointment along with an ID. http://infopass.uscis.gov/ hope it helps.

if you received notice that USPS sent back your EAD, this means that USPS no longer has it and USCIS does. which means that you need to call USCIS and ask them to resend it. they will put in a request to the service center that your application is at. dont know how long it takes for the service center to sent it back to you but after you talk to USCIS, you will get a letter in the mail to confirm that USCIS sent the request to the correct service center. you need to do this ASAP because USCIS only holds your EAD for 180 days before they destroy your EAD and then you will have to apply again as well as pay the $465 again.

question regarding driver licenses ?
pswa83 replied to x0_michy's topic in Life After Deferred Action
here in CA, mine is vaild for 5 yrs and my state ID is good for 6. i have heard of some ppl in CA only getting a DL for 2 yrs. i guess it all depends on who helps you at the DMV. but if you google the DMV in the state that you live in, you can look at the drivers handbook and it should say in there how long it is usually good for. -
you have both a DL and state ID. i live in CA and have both. they are considered 2 different forms of ID and therefore not illegal to have both.

i get being proud and all that but here's my situation. even though i was born in mexico, i have no ties to mexico. i dont know any one there and can honestly say that i dont want to either. i grew up in a small town in southern california where 99% of the people are white. i grew up with white kids and spoke english just like they did. my mother sent me to private school for my education. i can honestly say that i dont relate to the majority of Dreamers. i dont mean that in a bad way, i'm just saying that my upbringing was COMPLETELY different then most of everyone here. i dont speak spanish and dont feel the need to. I have gone 29 years without doing so and have gotten along just fine. i have been told that I have "sold out" of being hispanic or latino because I dont speak spanish but if I never knew what it was like to be hispanic or latino how can I have "sold out"? I am proud of the upbringing that i had and would love to do it all over again, the exact same way, if i could. for me, i am PROUD of the person that I am and the person i will become rather then being proud to be hispanic or latino. -
thank you for reminding me. i completely forgot about those too. every little bit helps when going to school. wish i had all that when i was in school. lol

In CA, those who have attended a CA high school for 3 yrs and graduated from said high school, qualify for in-state tuition. we also now, qualify for private scholarships but we still do not qualify for federal loans and grants. but like Itzel, said, one will need to talk to their school's financial aid department in order to see if they qualify for any assistance.

ok, yes, I have to admit that since getting my work permit I have not had the time to log in and help. for that I am guilty. however, before I had my EAD, all i did was sit at home and do nothing so i had ALL THE TIME IN THE WORLD to log in and help. Now, i have a full time job. I work 10 hrs a day 4 days a week and go to school friday and saturday all day. I dont feel that I have turned my back on those who are still waiting, it is just that my priorities have changed. i'm not going to feel guilty for FINALLY having a job and living my life the way that I want to and not the way it was handed to me. I feel that me being a productive and educated person with goals (just the same as those not in our situation) will make a difference by showing those with predetermined notions of illegals that not all illegals are the same and that the majority of us do deserve the right to call America home just as they do. -
How to obtain a Social Security Number after DACA Approval
pswa83 replied to JoseG's topic in Dream Act Questions & Answers
i guess that all depends on how fast you want to move. if you can wait 1- to 14 days then i would say apply for your SSN before you move then once you move, go to your local SSA office and change your address. if you do move, you will also need to change your address with USCIS as well. if you already know the address where you are moving then you can make the change as soon as you know when you are going to move. ( i did this. i changed my address 2 weeks before i moved) -
i like the forum and the way it's set up. i know the forum is for questions and all that but sometimes people dont go through the topics and look for the answers to their questions, so maybe a quick shoutbox for quick questions. maybe?
