What about credit? Is it going to be hard to start building up ur credit score ... Any ideas on how to build up ur credit fast ?
pswa83 replied to taramo35's topic in Life After Deferred Action
here's a random question. if you're over 18, why would they check your parents credit when you apply for a credit card? hell, i'm 29 and if they check my mother's credit score when i apply for a credit card, i'm F'd!!! i think once someone turns 18, they are considered an adult and their parents credit history or score shouldnt play a role in applying for a credit card. -
cant say that it's true or not. for me, personally, i think lawyers are too much of a middle man. if you think you have a chance of getting denied, then yeah, you should get a lawyer but if you have a straight forward case and sent in as much paper work that you have, then i think its just a matter of when an employee at USCIS gets to your case. and who really knows the process that the applications are processed. i mean some people who applied back in august, like i did, are still waiting to get approved. i was approved a week after my bio appt.

when you are married, they use both incomes and both credit scores. having 2 incomes is always better then just one. his credit shouldnt take too big of a hit because you have no credit as opposed to if you had bad credit then his credit score would get lowered big time. if i were you, i would wait a year if you want to buy a house and then see if you could qualify for a FHA loan. an FHA loan is based on your income and a few other things but it helps because then you cant buy a house that you cant afford. google FHA loan and look for information on it. good luck -
i honestly dont think that Obama is to blame for the Dream Act not passing. It was stopped in the Senate by Republicans. What needs to happen is that more Democrats need to be elected into the Senate so that the Dream Act does pass. Then and only then can it be given to Obama for him to sign into law. Seeing how I cant vote, I still want Obama to win because Romeny is WAY to conservative for America and his "ideas" for America do not sound like good ones.

there is no FAST and EASY way to build credit. it takes time and patience and VERY VERY good money management. it also takes a lot of responsibility. if you plan to open a credit card, buy things, then not pay for what you bought, you're basically stealing. this is one article that i read when it come to establishing credit. i think it's useful. http://www.ehow.com/how_4613092_establish-credit-fast.html -
after being approved how long to get work permit?

I also live in CA and will be applying for both my state ID and DL. they are 2 different forms of ID in CA and therefore you are able to have both. i want both because here is what happened to my mom. she had her purse stolen and her DL and SSN and everything else that was her purse. so the next day she went to the SSA to get a replacement of her SSN and they told her without a valid ID, she could not get a replacement. they even wouldnt take her naturlization certificate as proof of who she is. so she had to go to the DMV, wait 2 weeks for her state ID and then go back to the SSA. this is way i want both. i would keep my state ID at home in a safe place and just carry my DL with me but if my purse (or wallet) were ever stolen, then i could just use my state ID as my ID until my DL was replaced. also, seeing how they are 2 forms of ID, you could use them to open a bank account, if you need to or anything else that ask for 2 forms of ID. -
WOOHOOO!!! Got my SSN card in the mail TODAY!!!! Off to the DMV tomorrow!!!
-
thanks guys. i'll apply for my state ID first along with my permit and then 2 weeks from now, i'll take my behind the wheel test. PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE

great post Itzel!!! i listed my previous jobs in my work experience. however, what i did was, i listed someone who knew about my situation as my supervisor at that job. i dont see it as lying at all. i see it as making the best of my situation with what i was given. why should we not use our past job experience, if one can, when applying for jobs now? in my eyes, that would basically saying the skills and knowledge we can from those jobs, didnt happen and dont exist. just because on paper, legally i did not exist, doesnt mean that i need to throw everything that i have done and learned out the window.

i believe that our A# are different from an Alien Registration Number because the ARN are given to those applying green cards and our A# are just appication receipt numbers. and the I-94 is basically an arrival/departure record form. we wont have that because we never filed one when we entered the US. i guess one could try and fill out the application for a handgun but i would be a little wary about filling one out if the documents i have wont be taken.

traveling to Alaska or Hawaii should be a straight forward process. you can buy your ticket and as long as you have a DL or state ID then you can get on the plane. when flying to alaska, make sure that your connecting flight is in seattle or portland so that you dont have to be in Canada and therefore, wont have to deal with any troubles that being in Canada could bring.

this is what i found in regards to owning a gun in CA. seeing how we, as DACA applicants, will only have legal presence and not legal status, and therefore we will not have an I-94 or Resident Card. what i am gathering from this information is that, at least in CA, we will not be able to apply to buy a gun. http://oag.ca.gov/firearms/pfecfaqs#14

i filled it out. i mean the SSA cant deny me a SSN soley on that reason. I see the reasoning of not wanting to be put at a disadvantage because of being Latino but my view about being Latino is that is if someone has a problem with it or have preconception about Latino then they can either ask about the Latino culture from my life experince or they can continue to be stupid (and yes, for me there is a difference between being stupid and being ignorant) and live their own small minded lives with like mind idiots, If someone does like you because of WHAT you are rather than WHO you are, then it is by no fault of your own. it's their problem and they can sit on it and spin. and yes, i would say that to someone to their face and i'll do it with a smile

i dont know what a card center is. i'm assuming that its the place where they actually have the cards made and mailed from. here, where i live in ca, we only have a SSA office and not a card center. i know that i can go where my grandparents live (about 45 mins away) and apply for my SSN there too. but you live in a bigger city then i do so they could have 2 offices so that they can process applications faster.

cool. i thought about going to NM to get a license but you have to have a physical address there and i didnt.
-
the issue date on my EAD is 10/03/12 and when i applied yesterday, i guess it had already been 10 days. hope you get somewhere with it today. you know that the SSA is a government office and that you dont have to go to a certain one. you can go to any one no matter where it is and where you live.
-
here's a link that shows what you can take to the SSA office to prove your identity. your passport and license should be enough. but i guess it just all depends on the person you get in the office. http://www.ssa.gov/pubs/deferred_action.pdf can i ask what state you live in? was just wondering how you have a license. think its cool. till now CA wouldnt give illegals DLs.

thanks. it went very smooth. i always get super nervous about all this. i guess i'm always expecting for something to go wrong. just feels like such a weight has been lifted.

Read!!! Obtaining a SSN after EAD!! Wait 10 days..
pswa83 replied to C_Air23's topic in Dream Act Questions & Answers
wow, that's kind of a bummer that you have to go back. when i went they didnt ask me for my BC. but like you said, i guess it all depends on where you live and the person who take your app. hope everything works out though -
after your appt, you just basically wait until you are approved. if you have signed up for status updates on the USCIS website, you might get a txt and/or email when you are approved. then USCIS will let you know that your EAD card has been put into production, when they mail it, when USPS picks it up for delivery and when its actually delivered to your house. then once you get it, you can go to the SSA office and apply for a SSN, then once you have your SSN card, you can apply for a DL/ID if you live in a state that will issue you on. then from there, you can live a normal live. get a job, drive legally and all that fun stuff.

hi Irving92. Welcome to the forum. the people here are pretty cool and very helpful. i know personally, i waited a week for my application to be approved. but for the most part, people are waiting around 2 to 3 weeks after their biometrics appt on a decision. so, it's not that bad. think everyone hates waiting but it's worth it and once you're approved, things happen pretty fast after that. so, if you have any other questions feel free to ask, someone is bound to answer it or if you just wanna chat, feel free. good luck.

was just wondering how you plan on applying for PR? in terms of what basis?

as far as i know, the renewal for a EAD is pretty simple in most cases. but in terms of DACA applicants, i think we will have to file for the I-821D along with the EAD again seeing how they go hand in hand. i dont think we'll be able to apply for one or the other when we reapply. the renewal process might be easier because we may not have to show all the paperwork that we did when we first applied. but i think we'll just have to see how it goes 2 yrs from now. fingers crossed its as simple, if not simpler, then it is now
