I Feel So Close But Yet So Far.......

Recommended Posts

I feel like I'm just soooo close to having everything (a job, a car (drive), travel within the country of course,etc..) but at the same time i feel like it's never going to happen. I just really want to work and drive. Its tough living in CALIFORNIA and not be able to do anything. Do any of you feel like you're not a normal teenager? Or like the rest of your friends? I can't do what they do so easily and I get irritated sometimes. But i'm going to keep praying & hopefully January is my month ! & the month of all those others in Initial Review.

I know what you mean Jasmine! I never felt like a normal teenager, and plus with estranged family members, I never felt like I fitted anywhere. I still don't. We all understand, its the teenage life....!!!! well daca style lol :D

It's okay! It's easier in California though. Even if you tell someone that you are undocumented, people are more receptive here than in other states. When I was in high school, I told my closest friends and they did not judge any differently. But I know how it feels not being able to get around or be able to get a permit or a driver license when everyone seems to be getting one as soon as they are able to.. I was angsty about it too as a teenager but you grow out of it! You are almost there. You are lucky to be getting this reprieve when you are teenager. It sucked even more when I had graduated from college and still could not drive or work legally :( because I felt like every single one of my friends were moving ahead of me and I was stuck in a rut, rather involuntarily!!!... So cheer up!

Its true Unfortunately I had to hide it from my friends, I live in NY nd there is alot of hispanic neighborhoods but growing up i never knew or met someone else in my situatiom. I felt alone nd I even remember one of the worst feelings I felt was coming on my Jr year of high school Cus all my friends were taking drivers ed nd they were coming to school in their own car nd I couldnt do the same. But dont worry change is coming our way, now we will soon have so many more opportunities to live our lifes the way we always imagined it.good luck

man its horrible living in miami with this problem. im 22 i cant even buy beer or go into a club cus they wont accept my ID. when im with my friends i feel lower than them. i never told anyone about. it makes me feel like crap when they talk about traveling or going to a club because i cant go. i have to make an excuse for everything. it sucks that a piece of paper can make things different. but hopefully it all changes when i get approved. we're all gonna be normal people. so keep your head up high!

Yes it sucks especially when you reach your teenage years

not been able to work, drive, travel, apply for financial aid. You feel like you don't fit, other than that

California is one of the states where more undocumented people come to live, so it feels more like home in Mexico (for me). The bailes, food, culture, is spread all over the state so we get a lil break here lol. Stay positive you'll get your papers soon, January is the month for us =]…

[ Im also waiting for my documents to get accepted ]

I know what you mean I'm so excited to get approved but it seems so far and like my case is just sitting there on someone's desk under a huge pile or something. I live in New Mexico and I was able to drive and do things like that but working was a little harder. After high school I continued going to college but slacked off for awhile I felt like what was the point of getting a degree if you can't work. Now I'm beyond excited I will finally be able to work in a hospital and use all my knowledge from school. It's kind if frustrating at times but I'm trying to ignore the whole application and just hope one day it will arrive in the mail. Keep your head up guys :)
