Rawf 336 Posted January 9, 2013 I'm not sure over there, but here it is a no. I went to the community college to request financial support and the dude there tried everything possible to get my sister and myself help, but you have to be a permanent resident at least to qualify. Good luck, there's nothing wrong with trying! 1 taramo35 reacted to this
itzel 336 Posted January 9, 2013 Sorry girl, Im not too familiar with Califonia community college financial aid classes, but here in Texas community colleges they do offer payment plans and sometimes emergency loans. You might want to look into your community colleges financial aid department and see if they offer that. Yes, unfortunately education is expensive. Now I understand why so many people have outstanding student loans..good luck.
MoniqueMelissa 10 Posted January 9, 2013 Didn't they pass the California Dream Act? I think in addition to in-state tuition, if you're low income you get financial aid. They have restrictions like you have to have graduated or attended a California High School for 3 years. I know it applies to all the public colleges and universities so maybe. I'm not 100% sure. Maybe ask an advisor. I also know that in New York the CUNY's offer financial aid to anyone as long as you qualify for it. Good luck 2 Heisenberg2 and taramo35 reacted to this
pswa83 302 Posted January 10, 2013 California does have the California Dream Act. which entitles an undocumented student to apply for and receive non-state funded scholarships for public colleges and universities. this 1st link is the link for the instructions for the California Dream Act app. http://www.csac.ca.gov/pubs/forms/grnt_frm/2013-14_california_dream_application_instructions.pdf 2nd link is for the application itself http://www.csac.ca.gov/pubs/forms/grnt_frm/2013-14_paper_dream_application.pdf 3rd link is for the worksheet http://www.csac.ca.gov/pubs/forms/grnt_frm/2013-14_dream_application_worksheet.pdf i dont know, where you applied for school, but it is worth a try to talk to the financial aid department and ask them what your options are and if the California Dream Act applies to community and junior colleges as well. 2 taramo35 and Heisenberg2 reacted to this

Santi 353 Posted January 10, 2013 I did that for last semester but I still had to pay like 500 for 2 classes ... I that a lot cheaper than with no help? Every state is different, let alone each institution. You should really look into the opportunities that Pswa mentioned regarding Financial Aid for Dreamers in Cali... Take advantage of everything and get educated! 1 taramo35 reacted to this
Heisenberg2 34 Posted January 15, 2013 I did that for last semester but I still had to pay like 500 for 2 classes ... I that a lot cheaper than with no help? Well Now that the California Dream Act is in action you can apply for Either BOG Fee Waiver or FAFSA for whichever school you are going to. I go to SMC, and I applied for the BOG for Spring Semester. However you can apply for FAFSA as well. Talk to a counselor at your school taramo35 1 taramo35 reacted to this
