Ronny17 1 Posted February 1, 2013 I was reading that if you SSN starts. With an 8 is "unassigned for future service !?? What does that mean!??
pswa83 302 Posted February 1, 2013 i know before, the SSN number use to mean something. like having a SSN number that starts with 609 means that you got it in CA during the late 80s. but i think now, the SSN is randomly assigned. http://www.thetaoofmakingmoney.com/2007/03/05/270.html

pswa83 302 Posted February 1, 2013 i would think that if you have one, then it's assigned to you. dont know what "unassigned" means either. but i found this too. http://www.lavasurfer.com/info/socialsecurity.html
pswa83 302 Posted February 1, 2013 oh, oh,ok...so i think the "unassigned" numbers are numbers that SSA sets aside in case they are needed and then when "run out" of numbers, they start using the "unassigned" numbers. kind of like having a savings account and taking money from there when you're regular account has no money.
