jobelaw 0 Posted February 26, 2013 Hello, I dropped out of school in 2003 (12th Grade) I began taking some community college credits since last year, college level stuff, like English and Business classes. I have yet to take my GED. I need help with math. The Community College where I am currently taking classes offers an online Continuing education program through go2ed.com. After doing further reasearch, this is a site that most of all community colleges in the U.S. contract with to provided on line classes for GED prep. I want to apply for DACA but I still need my GED; therefore, I would like to apply as currently in school. Since I am not sure if the 6 credits per semester I am currently taking will prove as currently in school (since its not towards a GED program as stated in USCIS) would the online program offered throught the community college qualify me as currently in school? even thought its a company that the community college contracts with to provide the GED prep for the students? tell me what you think. I do not want to wait any longer to apply.. I rather attempt to apply via (currently in school and be able to apply ASAp) than to study on my own and wait several months till i am ready to take the test and then apply for DACA
JoseG 383 Posted February 26, 2013 After reading this, I think you are good to apply. an education program assisting students either in obtaining a regular high school diploma or its recognized equivalent under state law (including a certificate of completion, certificate of attendance, or alternate award), or in passing a General Educational Development (GED) exam or other equivalent state-authorized exam. Such education, literacy, or career training programs include, but are not limited to, programs funded, in whole or in part, by federal or state grants. Programs funded by other sources may qualify if they are administered by providers of demonstrated effectiveness, such as institutions of higher education, including community colleges, and certain community-based organizations. In assessing whether such an education, literacy or career training program not funded in whole or in part by federal or state grants is of demonstrated effectiveness, USCIS will consider the duration of the program’s existence; the program’s track record in assisting students in obtaining a regular high school diploma or its recognized equivalent, in passing a GED or other state-authorized exam, or in placing students in postsecondary education, job training, or employment; and other indicators of the program’s overall quality. For individuals seeking to demonstrate that they are “currently in school” through enrollment in such a program, the burden is on the requestor to show the program’s demonstrated effectiveness. Thr program go2ed.com is offered through Community Colleges, so it meets the requirements. Basically what the last paragraph says is that you need to provide evidence that the program is effective in assisting students obtain their GED. Get all of the information you can about the program including documents with your name on them. For example, you can go here http://www.ed2go.com...ingSchools.aspx and enter your zip code, then print out the page showing all of the community colleges that use that program.
