Traveling Within The Us

Recommended Posts

Hello everybody,

This question is not related to DACA or DreamAct.

My mom is planning a trip to visit me, and I bought her an airplane ticket. She isn't legal, but she does have a driver's license. However, she is quite concerned with traveling by airplane and worried that she could encounter an immigration's officer, or some type of border patrol in the airport. And even more concerned since she is arriving in the airport in Houston, TX which is a state with the largest number of deportations. I was wondering if any of you had any personal experience traveling in this situation or have family that has gone through it.

Please share your experience with me.

Thanks!!!

i dont know much about texas, but here in california if you dont speak inglish or look

hispanic, the will ask for passport or I.D.

if you show california I.D. you will be ok, because cali only gives license or I.D. to legal.

i think your mom has a D.L. from washington or oregon, or other states.

texas will know that the state shes from gives D.L. to imigrants an ask for passport.

but again if she speaks good inglish an smile 24/7 she will be ok.

my causin is american she took a flight from seattle washington to california, when he arrived at

the LAX air port he showed his D,L from washington they asked him for passport only because he

look alittle brown mexican. he got mad insulted them, he said to them i didnt know you nedded a passport to travel

inside my country, thats racist, he showed his social security card, they let him go.

your mom is better driving, thats my personal opinion. :D

I agree with JoseG, your mom has nothing to worry about. Even if they could detain her they wouldn't because she's a "low-risk". Hundreds of Low-risk immigrants are already being released from Texas prisons anyway. :)

so, i live in CA and i have never been asked for ID just because i look hispanic.

i've also traveled (by plane cross country and with in the state of CA) many times with no problems. as long as she has a valid passport and the name on her passport matches exactly the name on the plane ticket, she'll have no problems flying. unless she is going through customs, which i assume she isnt, then she will not encounter USCIS or ICE agents. she will see TSA agents as those are the ones who do the security screening and such.

also having a direct flight usually helps so that she doesnt have to worry about connecting flights and all that.

I wouldn't risk it. It's a 50/50 chance. I have known people that have flown like that and got detained or deported. My opinion its risky.
