pswa83 302 Posted April 17, 2013 ok, another question....(and maybe i'm thinking too far ahead) in reading the 19 pages, this popped out at me: "The bill eliminates the backlog for family and employment-based immigration, which for some amounted to more than a 20-year wait. does this mean that those already in line waiting for a family visa, can apply for PR and skip the who 5 or 10 yr wait for PR? pswa83 302 Posted April 17, 2013 yeah IF, WHEN, THINK is what scares me a little bit. Do you think it could be more than a year? I am so afraid that anytime my husband could be stopped driving and get deported, urgh, I just can't stand this feeling of having received DACA and having this, and it is too good to be true and something will happen to him. Oh my, I am so negative, I cant' help it. lol It will pass, I know it! And in less than 20 months, maybe all of us will be visiting our families in our countries! if he has been approved for DACA and has a valid DL, then he's not going to be deported if he gets pulled over. also if he is DACA approved, then once CIR passes he will be in a better position and will only have to wait 5 yrs before applying for PR but will have a valid visa so that he can work and even travel out of the US without AP
Gezinha 121 Posted April 17, 2013 Most likely will be a faster path. I know you have been in line for some time right? It would be good that whoever is in line gets this before any of us can even apply, it is only fair because they have been waiting for so long. While securing the border, work on people who are waiting already, then get their cases out of the way so they can receive the other millions, because this is not going to be fast, at all! And the people who are already in line shouldn't have to wait. 1 pswa83 reacted to this
Gezinha 121 Posted April 17, 2013 No, my husband arrived when he was 17, he was not eligible for DACA.
pswa83 302 Posted April 17, 2013 oh, that sucks that you're husband couldnt apply for DACA. but if i'm reading it correctly, once you're able to apply for PR, then you can place your husband on your application as well. therefore, hopefully giving your husband status once you became a PR. yeah, i've been waiting for a family visa since 2001. but if 5 yrs is all i have to wait to be a PR and still be able to travel out of the US, then that's fine with me. i've already 12, whats another 5? lol...it's better then 10 or 13. Gezinha 121 Posted April 17, 2013 But my husband woul qualify on his own, or not? Even if he would wait more than me, wouldn't he be able to apply on his own? He has been here for 8 years, but he came thru the border. He would qualify, right? But I could add him to my paperwork so he would wait less??? That would be wonderful! I know, all I really care about right now is being able to travel and see my mom, green card and citizenship will come later, no matter how long, I can wait. Yes, no more backlogs for family and employment-based immigration. Which is a huge step forward.

There seems to be some confusion going on and I hope I'm not the one who's confused. If and When this bill passes and becomes law, everyone who is in this country illegally will apply for RPI within 6 months after DHS comes up with a plan for securing the border. RPI by the way is just like PR without the government benefits like foot-stamps...etc. If I read the bill correctly, which I think I did, RPI is not tied to border security. What is tied to border security is PR and Citizenship.
glew 0 Posted April 17, 2013 for the ones that already been approved for the one that obama had passed would we receive a special card that would allow us to travel
Osha 126 Posted April 17, 2013 for the ones that already been approved for the one that obama had passed would we receive a special card that would allow us to travel DHS will probably be designing a new RPI card, and we will be able to travel outside the U.S.
itzel 336 Posted April 17, 2013 Like Osha mentioned earlier, let's just wait and see if there is anything added or removed from this bill while on the floor.. 1 engineer2mike reacted to this
Gezinha 121 Posted April 17, 2013 I wish that the county, first of all, would give DL to all the people in states that apparently are ignorant enough to deny them that, even after DACA. Since this bill is going to pass with alterations or not, because we know it WILL, somehow, they should get this out of the way. Nothing realted to the bill, I know, but I am just saying it is ridiculous to deny people the common right to drive but love to charge them for taxes and everything else with no question, it is just senseless. If the bill passes, everyone who qualifies will be given RPI status, which will be a legal status, so all states will be forced to give DL and IDs. With DACA we didn't have a legal status, just legal presence, so some states refused to issue IDs and DLs because of that. 2 pswa83 and Gezinha reacted to this

drma 3 Posted May 8, 2013 There are quite a lot amendments already filed for review, the harshest I believed to be are from Sen. Ted Cruz. The list can be seen here for anyone up for a reading. http://www.judiciary.../amendments.cfm http://www.huffingto..._n_3232641.html
JoseG 383 Posted May 8, 2013 Here are some pretty stupid ones. http://thinkprogress.org/immigration/2013/05/08/1972011/the-11-most-heartless-republican-amendments-to-the-immigration-bill/
Rawf 336 Posted May 9, 2013 9. Prevents low-income undocumented immigrants from seeking legalization. The amendment would require individuals applying for provisional legal status to maintain regular employment and a “regular income or resources” above 400 percent of the poverty line (more than $92,000for a family of four). Under the current bill, immigrants must earn at 100 percent of the poverty line or show regular employment. Isn't that kind of normal income for a family of 4? What if the person is above 25 (the law looks at them as an "independent" person)? Still can't believe people can be so heartless.. I bet none of them have idea how hurtful it is to be an undocumented immigrant. We should all make the government remove their documents for a month and see what they think after working hours in a factory getting paid the minimum wage... I bet their ideas would be completely changed. 3 chris_oswaldo, jjkayslay and Osha reacted to this
