Boston Bombers Of Chechen Ethnicity - The Impact On Cir

Recommended Posts

(Sigh)

Ok - as many of you are probably aware, the authorities identified the two suspects (one of them deceased) which are from Chechen origin.

For those of you wondering where is Chechnya, it is a 'republic' of Russia - by Republic, it should be interpreted as an autonomous region where the majority of the population is of an ethnic minority. In addition, Russia allows them to have another language aside from Russian, and the region is also part of the Commonwealth of Independent States (former soviet republics).

Here is a map:

Chechnya is the #3 republic according to the map

Chechnya has been infamous due to a separatist, radical Islamist group that want to establish the Caucasus Emirate (which would be comprised of the colored area described in the little picture above - not Georgia) and have strived to do it through violent means. The separatist group (read: Chechen Rebels) have been responsible for attacks in Central Asia and Russia due to tensions that have existed in the region for a long time between Chechens and Russians (since ~18th century).

Why is this important, you ask?

Well, the bombers were immigrants from Chechnya who came to the US and were naturalized. Now you catch the drift.

During the time of significant, comprehensive immigration reform, the authors of the bombing were immigrants. They were not hispanic, latinos, asian, african, etc, but they were immigrants nonetheless.

I just want to see your thoughts on how this might have a negative impact in the debate for immigration reform...

Perhaps it won't stop the reform on its tracks, but it could spark a heated debate, in addition to amendments and changes to the bill.

Thoughts? Comments? Concerns?

Thanks for the geography lesson with images and history descriptions. Such a creep!

Any who this is so true no matter what their origin is these two terrorists will affect the debate and legislative process for the immigration reform. Life is just full of surprises.

And sometimes, these surprises are ill-timed

The good news is that they were not illegal immigrants...But you are right, immigrants non the less. This will affect CIR one way or the other, lets hope it inclines towards security checks.

this will most definitely be a roadblock, but the acts committed by these two jerks will only be used negatively by only the most ardent opponents of CIR. Anyone with sense would realize this is unrelated to the struggles and attitudes of most illegal immigrants. It's a shame the Boston Bombing even happened at all, and its a shame that the aftermath is going to cause so much trouble for so many different people.

I also believe it will have a negative impact on CIR, my question would be, did they first enter the country with student visas? If so, I thinkt the # of student visas may then be limited on the CIR bill..great timing assh****....

I think, if anything this should strengthen the need for reform. Background checks for everyone. And it truly doesn't matter what nationality you are from, if the U.S. doesn't stop sticking their noses into other countrie's business and making unecessary wars, this will never stop. Middle Easterns among other races and countries hate the U.S. for what they see as good reasons, I am sure that if they were all up in my city bombing the shit out of it in Brazil, I would be pissed too and hate the shit out of them. Some people take it to the extreme and join these terrorist groups and to these things to innocent people thinking that this will stop the war on their countries. Hmm, but it ends up having totally the opposite effect they want.

I just wanted to say that, and I am sure some of you agree, and since Clinton left office and that jackass Bush took over, the country has been on a downfall and everyone knows why.

But I think the CIR will still pass regardless of this.

What's interesting is that the Chechens have a problem with Russia, not US. Perhaps it is because the were Islamic Extremists that they did what they did...but remember: extremists have also attacked London, some other countries in Europe, India, and constantly strike in Central Asia, the Middle East, and Africa...I wouldn't isolate the US.

I wish I could agree with you Wisedevil, but you know how people are, they will use anything to destroy CIR, they can twist the facts so well for anything in this country, it is like magic. I believe it will pass, but there will be some tweeks, we will definitely not have many rights. As long as my husband and I have a DL, SSN, and a right to come and go see our families, and eventually a green card, I am fine with it. Citizenship will come with time.

What happened in Boston will not derail immigration reform in anyway, call me naive but its not going to happen!

A senator already said it, this has nothing to do with the Immigration reform. Please stop this rumor!!
