CinDan08 6 Posted June 8, 2013 Has anyone applied for a credit card? If so, which one and from what bank? I applied for the student secured credit card from Wellsfargo. They asked for a copy of my ssn card and I gave it to them, they said they needed to fax it along with the application since my ssn was new and so that the process wouldn't take too long, but then after a week they called me asking me to take a copy of my residence because my ssn card said it was only valid for work. Has anybody been through this? I've heard of other DACA recipients who got approved for that same credit card, but one person mentioned he wasnt asked for his ssn card, and that I shouldnt have showed it to them, Is it true? Did I make a mistake by giving them the copy? Wouldnt it show up in their system that it is only valid for work anyway? p.s. I will go on Monday to see what's going on, but I'll like some feedback on this topic anyway. Thanks
roadrunner11 167 Posted June 8, 2013 Banks should be pretty secure when it comes to show them your SSN card. I wouldn't worry to much. Other places have asked me to provide them a copy of my SSN because the system flags our numbers when they run our credit report. I believe it has to do with our work permit status and how new they are. I applied for a student Visa card from my bank and I got approved for a small credit amount. Three months later I was offered a visa rewards card from the same bank. Best wishes!!!
CinDan08 6 Posted June 8, 2013 So, regarding thecopy of my residence, do I take the DACA approval notice?
Amber 7 Posted June 9, 2013 I applied for a cc through bank of America. The whole transaction only took a few minutes. The personal banker asked to see my ID and SS card. When he saw it he automatically knew I had been approved thru DACA. After congratulating me Lol he checked to see what cc I could get approved for. Once I qualified (I found out in seconds) they just took a copy of my ID and SS card. I received my card in 5 business days. BTW I asked him if I had to bring my SS card with me and he said yes that they needed to see it and take a copy of it so I'm pretty sure you did the right thing in showing the bank your card. I find it interesting that they are asking for a copy of your residency tho

amor 112 Posted March 9, 2014 So annoyed with this credit card situation. Applied for capital one's new comers, Barclays small limit card for bad or no credit and a few store cards and got denied on all. Absolutely stopped applying but it's so frustrating that with a full time job, not one of those cards would approve me. I really didn't want to tie up money in a secured credit card but it looks like that's my only option to start building my credit!
Tori 38 Posted March 9, 2014 I applied for a CC from B of A. Originally I was looking at their credit building CC and ended up getting their student CC though I'm not a student anymore, the guy hooked me up! $1,000 credit line and 0% interest for a year. Since I already had B of A account I also updated my SSN with my new legit one. No questions asked.
