To check your application status. go to www.uscis.gov

http://www.uscis.gov/portal/site/uscis

On the left side of the page there is going to be a Case Status box. You will then need to enter your receipt number into that box and either hit enter on your keyboard or hit the check status bottom.

If your case is in their system then it should show up and tell you where your application is at. if it's not, you would wait and try again the following day.

Hope this helps. :) Post questions below.

Your case has been accepted and routed to the USCIS California Service Center for processing. Within 7-10 days by standard mail you will receive your official Receipt Notice (Form I-797) With the official Receipt Notice (Form I-797) you may visit www.uscis.gov where you can check the status of your case using My Case Status. We suggest you wait until you have received your Form I-797 before checking My Case Status. I also have two case numbers!

Oh, that's the acceptance confirmation e-mail.

It says I-797 on there but in reality they will mail you two I-797C Notice of Action with your case numbers. The reason you have 2 case numbers is because one is for your I-821D form and the other is for your I-765.

I decided to go to USCIS.gov this is what I found

Form I-797: Types and Functions

USCIS uses numerous types of Form I-797 to communicate with customers or convey an immigration benefit.  Form I-797 is NOT a form you can fill out. The chart below gives a brief description of each:

Form Number Description

I-797, Notice of Action Issued when an application or petition is approved.

I-797A, Notice of Action Issued to an applicant as a replacement Form I-94.

I-797B, Notice of Action Issued for approval of an alien worker petition.

I-797C, Notice of Action Issued to communicate receipt of payments, rejection of applications, transfer of files, fingerprint biometric, interview and re-scheduled appointments, and re-open cases.

I-797D Accompanies benefit cards.

I-797E, Notice of Action Issued to request evidence.

I-797F, Transportation Letter Issued overseas to allow applicants to travel.

I was kinda wondering the same thing. Does anyone know if you will get an e-mail notification from the case status site when your Biometrics appointment is mailed out so that I don't have to go check the mail box everyday -.-

It doesn't, at least not in my case.

It shows the date the applications were received and what the next step will be, also shows some extra information but no sign of the biometrics date.

If it has past one or two weeks after your letter of approval you got in the mail, I suggest calling your local office and asking if there's a pending appointment for your case since you are expecting a biometrics appointment and hasn't arrived.

I read in other forums about people not getting the letter on time and missed the appointment.

Hi,

So I remember trying this out like the first day I got my official receipt number, but when I type it in all I get is "Your case can not be found at this time in My Case Status. Please check your receipt number and try again. If you need further assistance, please call the National Customer Service Center at 1.800.375.5283."

I even made an account and tried adding the case number.

Is there any steps you have to take to actually view information on your particular receipt number?

I'll probably just call that number tomorrow and see what they can tell me.

That happens with everyone, the case isn't in the system for a few days. But rest assure it will be available online within a few days. Took mine a week to show the progress.

Yeah, I was thinking that too in the beginning, but I already did the biometrics appointment this past Wednesday. I would think by then that my file would be in the system.

Maybe not though. It might be a few more days, like you said

Your information should have been available online the day you got your I-797C, or a couple days after. It's been 20 days since you got your I-797C right? Your information should have been on there for a while now.

I'm not saying there's something wrong though.

He's probably entering the wrong status number.

Just for the record it should begin with 2 capital letters and a few numbers, both letters you get in the mail has their own case number but both show the same exact status information.

Try entering both, one at a time of course. :)

So I called, and they said my case was in the system and that everything was going smoothly. However, a "computer glitch" apparently does not allow me to see my case according to the supervisor. He said don't worry about it.

Just a heads up to anyone who might also be having trouble.

Though should I accept a "computer glitch" as the reason to why my case is not being displayed in the automated system, or should I call back again and ask for more information?

Thank you in advance.

The first few letters on your receipt number are the letters for where your case is being processed. Mine starts with LIN and its being processed in Lincoln NE.
