sotero_gonzalez 54 Posted September 9, 2013 So I've been job hunting since I got approved, I'm sure I'm not the only one, I created a monster account, linked in, career builder and indeed account and didn't have any luck. So then I started to look for jobs for the city or the county. I applied for the social services agency in orange county and they selected me to take a written exam and move to the second phase of recruitment. However in the application it just asked if I can provide proof to work here legally, it didn't ask for my social. Does anyone know or has anyone tried to work for the county/state and if so what happened?
God_why_m3 19 Posted September 9, 2013 I can't work as yet, due to that im 8 mnths pregnant. But once u have your employment card you should be able to work anywhere within the united states. Tthat shows you can work here legally
JoseG 383 Posted September 9, 2013 There are a few places where we can't work, for example, USPS. You must be a PR or Citizen to work there. 2 Admin and God_why_m3 reacted to this
sotero_gonzalez 54 Posted September 9, 2013 @ jose G, do you where I can find information as where we can and can't work. I've looked online and haven't really found anything concrete.
JoseG 383 Posted September 10, 2013 Not sure, all I know is that most federal jobs and private sector jobs that require a security clearance require U.S. Citizenship. 1 sotero_gonzalez reacted to this

stolenlacs 37 Posted September 10, 2013 I think some state jobs don't require citizenship. Some of the jobs I found that needed citizenship were IRS,USPS,TDPS. The ones for the health and human resources did not specify that they needed citizenship so I think you should be good. Still I would ask just to make sure. Good luck! Thanks, I emailed the human resources yesterday and explained the situation. Just waiting on their reply to see if I am able to get hired or not. 1 Dreamer3oh3 reacted to this
Admin 174 Posted November 1, 2013 You apply at mostly any job. Also I am sure in the workplace if they really want you to work with them, they can always find ways to get you on the job. But yes, as many have said, federal jobs and higher scale jobs, most of the time they require PR or citizenship. So before you get your hopes up, just make sure you do some research. sotero_gonzalez 54 Posted November 6, 2013 I was denied because I only have the work permit. I still think they should make a note of that on their application because all its says on there is if you are eligible to legally work in the U.S and it has a box to mark yes or no. They don't ask for a social or anything nor do they say that to work there you require at least permanent residency status. I did research and I couldn't find anything solid on line and not even their HR department knew the details for being able to work there. I went to the initial interview, I took the mandatory exam of 60 multiple choice questions that consisted of math and interviewing skills and I missed a total of 3 and when I went to the second interview they just told me after reviewing my application they had determined that I wasn't able to work there because I have only a work permit. They should've just said so in the first place instead of making me take days off school and my current job to make the interviews and the test. Damn!!! I.have.a.DREAM 2 Posted January 18, 2014 Don't ask them if they are able to take up work authorization as a proof. THEY ARE!!!! THEY did not do their research I assure u.
Kr1186 3 Posted March 16, 2014 Most government jobs require citizenship for employment. Some require green card holders. Other than that, you should be able to apply anywhere given your work permit is still active and not expired.
