HisWife 6 Posted December 6, 2013 hubbys employment authorization card came today.! YAY!! which is only valid for 2 years (which i didn't know) was there another letter that's supposed to come in the mail also? how does he apply for a social security and drivers license? i thought this was for 5 years. I'm just so confused. and somewhere in the 'instructions' that comes with the card says "if the card expires before USCIS makes a final decision on your form I-485, application for adjustment of status , you may apply for a new card." Was I suppose to submit this form. do they do this form? what does this mean? Besides his card coming in was there another thing that's suppose to come in the mail? is this why I'm confused? ahhh sorry for all the questions lol
Theresa 63 Posted December 6, 2013 You will receive an approval letter for defferred action separate from the card. Take that letter and the card and passport to get a social security number. Then when you get the ss card in the mail, you go to the dmv to get the drivers license. Take all of the mentioned above. Renewal for defferred action and work authorization will be every two years but the drivers license is for more years.

Tori 38 Posted December 6, 2013 DL and ID term length varies from person to person. Some folks' expires in 2 others in 4 or 6 years. It's all how the DMV office processes your info when applying. Congrats on the approval! Be sure to get to the SS office early to apply for your SSN. 1 HisWife reacted to this

Tori 38 Posted December 6, 2013 After getting approved there's a different type of wait time, but one that is much less nerve wracking than waiting to be approved. There's the wait while applying for your SSN and the wait for the SSN card. Then the wait for applying for a DL/ID, the wait for the drivers test after passing the written, and finally the wait while the DL/ID is mailed. I suggest you set appointments for your SSN app and your DL/ID app. Also apply for an ID so you have a state ID while you're in the process of getting a DL.
