There isn't really much to it. Once you send your app, You wait for a letter from USCIS to come telling you when to go take your biometrics(fingerprints and picture) at a USCIS office, after that they tell you to wait some more for the decision to be taken on your case if they need anymore information from you they will send you a letter telling you of the information they need. If everything is good they will approve your app. if you dont meet the qualifications or didnt provide enought information they will deny your application and thats that. So pretty much all you do is wait and wait and wait and wait some more for them to decide. How long will your application take nobody knows the criteria they use, some ppl get approved in 3months other is 6 other in 9 others wait over a year.

You can check the status of your case here;

https://egov.uscis.gov/cris/Dashboard/CaseStatus.do

Good Luck!

Key word is wait, don't get carried away or start to think negative or that you may be denied, like Armando said, its up in the air on how long your case will take to get approved so keep yourself occupied, one thing I did was not check my status every day, do it like every month or so and you will get approved in no time.

I agree with the comments above. Keeping yourself occupied is probably the best advice to take. My whole process took 12 months from start to finish, whereas my older brother, who filed a couple months before I did ended up with a 5 month process. My work permit and drivers license both expired during this waiting period and I was going nuts with how slow everything seemed to be moving. My lawyer sent out an inquiry and we were told that we would have an answer by nov 2013. When that date passed, we inquired some more and was given till January. When we didn't hear back, we started to nag. We wrote even more letters and made sure to have online inquiries out. It was after my mom started to sob on the phone while talking to a rep that we felt our luck change...two days later and I was approved.

I hope that you don't have to endure such a long waiting period...as everyone else has stated, keep busy. But know that it could take some time and all you can do is to be patient. Believe me, worrying doesn't get you too far! Gooudluck!
