I went to the ss iffice today to file an appkication for my ssn the lady said it would be maiked out in 2 weeks then I asked her if I could come back in a few. Days to get. A print out of rhe number and she said.NO we dont do that but I hear of alot of u guys being able to do it or am I mistaken???

Yes, of couse you can get a print-out.

It's your right to be able to get your information from the SSA under the Privacy Act.

First, tell them that you want to know whether you've been issued an SSN. They will check, and if they say yes, ask them for a printout. They'll have no choice but to give you one.

If they get rowdy with you, tell them that SSA guidelines state that an individual has a right to obtain an SSN printout upon request in compliance with the Privacy Act.

Don't forget to take your EAD. Keep in mind that maybe tomorrow might be too early to go, maybe you won't be issued an SSN yet, but let us know how it goes.

It doesn't really matter, but to be safe just write down both last names.

You may want to update your timeline, if you've been approved.

i would write it the same way it is written on their ID (if they have any) or the same way it's written on any legal papers they have.

hello everyone!

I was approved March 27 and today April 1st I received my EAD card...my question is do I have to wait a couple more days to apply for an SSN or can i go this week?, also I dont have my original birth certificate just the copy but i have my passport is that ok? and my parent dont have a SSN in the application do I put it as unknown? Thank you for your help

you can try and apply this week. worse they will tell you is to wait 10 days.

if your passport is current then that should work just fine.

your parents do not to sign the application.

this link is provided by the SSA and explains what to take when applying for a SSN. i would print it out, take your approvals letters, along with every and anything on the list that may be helpful.

Well, I received my EAD on April 06,2013 and I went to go apply for my ssn today, and they told me i should've waited 10 days, they put the application through anyway and gave me a receipt saying it could take up to 4 weeks for me to receive a social. Hope its sooner, but I had no idea I had to wait any amount of time. I guess every office is different. Im in Indiana btw

The names nor SSN are required. Some SSAs don't even look at the application. Both times I've gone, the workers just go off of the birth certificate or EAD, so if you take your passport instead of your birth certificate, your parent's name won't be on there. I doubt it matters though, just write their name and check the Unknown box.

That depends on your state, whether they accept printouts, just the number, or if they require to see the actual card.

That's what I heard, supposedly Florida does not require the actual card, but anyways, I'll just give it a try tomorrow and see what happens.

Update; for any other Florida applicant, you can get your driver's license with just a print out of you SSN.
