Cool post. Thanks, regarding the foreign birth certificate, do they mean the original birth certificate or the translated certified copy we have?

Ill be bringing both in just in case and as soon as I get my work permit Ill be applying for a TX ID, just to make any type of paperwork go by easier...

I'm not sure, it says an original document or certified copy so I think just the birth certificate will work. Hopefully it does because I forgot to take a copy of the translation -.- I'll take my passport and high school transcript since they are both accepted also, just in case.

If you are granted Deferred Action and an EAD, you may be eligible for an SSN.

To become eligible, you must bring in your EAD and proof of age and identity when you go to apply for the SSN.

Not exactly sure, but once you get the EAD, you can apply for a SSN right away.. just take the EAD and passport.. sounds easy, but why they use the word "may" as if in some cases people won't qualify even after getting an EAD. As far as I know to work the EAD is not enough, you still need a SSN or no company will hire you.

I filled out my sisters application and she's 16. If you are from 16-31 years old, it's all the same.

I would think that if they are under 18 and their parents have legal status that there would be some way for them to gain legal status through their parents instead of applying for DACA.

and as for as being under 18 and having to show "other" documents, define "other"?

i would think USCIS would let them know what other documentation they would want to see. But if they have all the other required documentation then i do not see why USCIS would ask for "other" documentation

I don't know if there is a fee, but it shouldn't take more than 2 weeks for your card to arrive. The location you go to apply will get your number a few days after you apply. You can go back there and get the number from them if you need it sooner.

Im not 100% sure but even after one applies for a SS card and it takes the few days to get to you via mail, I think they give you a receipt witht the SS number youll be using..so one can start applying for jobs...kind of like when you apply for an id or dl, they give you a temporary paper while yours gets in the mail.

That is correct, while your card is being made and mailed you can go back to the SS Office and request your number. You can take that to the DMV and get your identification.

I think it takes 4 days for the SS Office to have your number, I don't think they give it to you right away but I might be wrong.

Yeah, it will take a few days, 3 or 4 before they get the number.
