JoseG 383 Posted November 29, 2012 I applied for my social yesterday ...can I go tomorrow and ask for a print out ....or how long do I wait? Give them a call and ask them if you have been assigned a Social Security Number. If you have, you can go get a printout. Can I go to get ssn. With just my ead letter or do I have to wait for my actual card ? You need the EAD card.

JoseG 383 Posted November 30, 2012 Ok thanks do you know the number I live in calli or where can I look it up They should have given you a receipt when you applied with a reference number and a phone number. Look up the SSA office you went to on Google if the number isn't on the receipt.

They might be confused. Your EAD and translated birth certificate are enough. Try printing out the PDF information on DACA SSN instructions http://www.socialsec...online/ss-5.pdf and take it with to the SSN office. They should be informed better. When you go to the SSA to apply for a Social Security Number you need to establish three things. age, identity, and US citizenship/lawful alien status. For those three things, you need to submit at least 2 acceptable documents. Two acceptable documents that can be used are your Employment Authorization Document (EAD) and a Passport or Birth Certificate. The EAD will establish your Identity and lawful alien status, and the birth certificate/passport will establish your age. I suggest you print out this form and go back to the SSA and try again. If they don't accept your EAD and birth certificate, show them this form. It is the POMS guidelines that they are supposed to follow. Look under Section C part 2. Alien Applicant. https://secure.ssa.g.../lnx/0110210020

emsmama2007 1 Posted December 14, 2012 ***news flash*** i just spoke to a supervisor for the social security admin. and he told me that adults over the age of 18 who have been granted deferred action and have their EAD, have to have a passport when applying for a social security card. he said minors can get by without a passport. thats the reason why ive been having problems applying.now i have to wait to get a social security card until i can get an appointment with the consulate to get my passport...hope you guys have better luck than me. I don't think this is correct. B. Original and new SSN At least two acceptable documents are required to establish: age, identity, and US citizenship/lawful alien status. 2. Alien applicant If an alien applicant submits an immigration document (e.g., a document issued by the Department of Homeland Security), you can use it to establish identity and lawful alien status; then, the alien must provide another acceptable document, such as a foreign passport or birth certificate, to establish age. Basically what this says is that we need to prove 3 things to the SSA. Our age, identity, and U.S. Citizenship/lawful alien status. Our EAD works to establish identity and lawful alien status, then a passport or birth certificate can be used to establish age. This is straight from POMS, the guidelines the SSA must follow. https://secure.ssa.g.../lnx/0110210020 The only possible scenario where I think they would demand to see a passport is maybe when they can't verify your birth certificate. Other than that, you shouldn't need a passport.

dreamer2008 15 Posted December 18, 2012 I went to applied for my social security card today and there was not a fee. The lady asked me for my work permit and my passport. Always make sure to call your local ASA office to avoid any unnecessary trip.
