Sending W2 With Fake Ssn To Employer

Recommended Posts

Hi,

So, a few days ago, I applied to a job in IKEA with the new valid SSN and EAC which I got from DACA. I was happy.

Today, I received an email from IKEA notifying me that they were doing background checks. The IKEA HR lady asked if I could send her my W2 form from my previous job for "employment verification purposes". They need this because I've told them I have experience in retail, which is true, and they really want to hire me because of this.

The only problem is that at my last job (BJ's Wholesale Club), I worked with a fake SSN, and the W2 shows it clear as day.

Should I send the W2 form anyway? Or should I tell them I don't have it?

I'm not sure what to do.

I really want to get this job. I need it to pay my tuition. Currently, I've put them on hold. They're still waiting for me to "find" my W2 form. I thought about blurring the SSN out, but that would make them ask even more questions, I think.

What do you guys think? Send it in?

I think blurring the SSN out is a good idea...say that you had to make copies for something else and you didn't want whoever it was to have your social...and now those are the only ones you have, so the SSN is blurred.

You can try and blur it out but just remember it may raise a few more questions. Do you still have contact with a manager at that old place you used to work with? if so, if its only for verification purposes, there should be no problem with them verifying with that manager. Just make sure to stress out to that manager to please not disclose your SS#.

I ended up sending the w2 form anyway, without the blur, and I got hired! Was definitely worth the "risk".

I guess it was the right call to go with my initial choice. Anyway, thanks for all your help guys.

I got the job! :)

I a currently going through the same issue right now, I provided my un blurred w-2's and explained my situation hr stated it shouldn't be a problem but I'm still worried. Could I get in trouble for having used a fake ssn?
