God_why_m3 19 Posted July 18, 2014 When I was pregnant I was receiving welfare. Now my daughter is on her fathers case and I want her and I to removed from his case( he's using the food stamps all for his self, when it's for him AND her). Last week I went to apply for child care, cash assistance, food stamps, I showed the worker my letter from the USCIS stating that I have deferred action and she tells me that I'm not eligible for nothing and that I will need to close the other case first then come again. I know for a fact that I can't get food stamps but my daughter can and I'm eligible for child care once my child is a US Citizen. Isn't Deferred action considered PRUCOL and Deferred action recipients are allowed to get welfare? If so how can I show the worker that I'm eligible? Please help because I need the child care so I can go out and get a job and she needs her food stamps for her baby milk and baby food. I can't buy her milk because I don't work and when he was living with us, I truly believed that he took her WIC. I have to wait until august 4th to get a new one. Theresa 63 Posted July 19, 2014 You cannot get public assistance while being on DACA for yourself but your baby can. But if she is already receiving it through another case, it needs to be dropped before. She cannot be on more than one case.

I know all of that Theresa, but I didn't know that we couldn't get public assistance. I thought it was a public benefit not federal??
Theresa 63 Posted July 19, 2014 You have to have legal status and DACA does not give legal status. Public assistance is government benefits.
