punnysang 8 Posted November 22, 2014 I remember when Obama had more details regarding the immigration reform... There were two things I recall; he said he would work on DREAMers' path to legalization (there were detailed descriptions of the possible bill - after a couple years of Green Card you get to apply for citizenship) and he also promised that workers integral to America - like the farmers - would also have an opportunity to walk the path to eventual legalization. His executive order doesn't even scratch the surface in my opinion. While the republicans and conservatives are enraged, I feel like he didn't deliver at all. Sure, it's a step in the right direction but I feel almost betrayed. Shouldn't the DREAMers who pursue education and work to better America get first priority? Why are some liberals hailing him as acting alone to bring on something so radical? It's not radical enough after all of the promises that he's made in the past. Sure, congress is to blame as well but I'm just angry in general. For DREAMers, his executive order was a mere extension to more DACA eligible people. For us, who have already qualified and have DACA, his executive order doesn't do shit. I'm honestly saddened by this. What were your thoughts? 1 Gezinha reacted to this

Gezinha 121 Posted November 23, 2014 I totally agree! And I think that, also, the 2009 (5 year mark) was way too low, it should have been for people who have been here for over 8 years because now it is even more than a slap in the face of those who have been here for over 10 years, have not had children to burden the American economy and have been living responsibly and paying taxes. I have beef with this, personal beef bc i know people (sorry excuses for human beings) who have had children for the sole purpose of creating roots here and not being deported for the very reason they expected the president to do something like this. I am so pissed right now at Obama!
outofmxny 17 Posted November 23, 2014 THE PRESIDENT CANNOT GRANT GREEN CARDS OR PATH TO CITIZENSHIP THREW A EXECUTIVE ORDER!!! ONLY CONGRESS CAN GRANT GREEN CARDS AND PATH TO CITIZENSHIP! STOP BLAMING THE PRESIDENT!, Be greatful that you even have DACA. The president is doing everything he can within his power. I honestly think the OP was expecting too much. I pretty much expected that the EO would only cover certain groups, although I earnestly hoped parents of DACA beneficiaries would be included. The President is a constitutional law professor. At the end of the day, his EO has to be able to help as many as possible, but also be able to stand up to court challenges. While we have certain rights under the Constitution, in the eyes of the public and, ultimately, courts, USCs and LPRs have more of a right to be here than we do. During the summer, Rep. Gutierrez and others tried to create the new group of DREAMers. And the discussion was always framed around the parents of LPRs and USCs (particularly those who are minors, as they are placed in the foster care system when parents are deported). We should all be grateful we qualified for the initial program and that older DREAMers have now been extended the same opportunity we had. I'm especially thankful since I'm part of a mixed status family. My little brothers no longer have to worry that they will get news that our mother will be deported (which was a real possibility for us some years ago, when she was caught DWL). I totally agree! And I think that, also, the 2009 (5 year mark) was way too low, it should have been for people who have been here for over 8 years because now it is even more than a slap in the face of those who have been here for over 10 years, have not had children to burden the American economy and have been living responsibly and paying taxes. I am so pissed right now at Obama! If the required number of years would have been too high, immigrants rights activists would have been coming for him much like they already are, since some of the community seems to think he hasn't done enough with the new EO. I'll play devil's advocate here. 8 years is too low. It should have been 15. Our family has been here for 25 years and we have approved I-130 and a visa available. But we're dealing with the 10 year ban. We tried to legalize. Using your logic, I should be upset that he's giving deferred action to people who didn't even attempt to adjust and have been here less time than we have. I am not. In fact, I am ecstatic that he's actually doing something to help the undocumented population. At the end of the day, he could have continued to take the heat, but he didn't. He's putting himself out there, much to his own detriment. I have seen so many posts on twitter, on this message board, and another where people are busy belly aching instead of being humble and grateful. 1 God_why_m3 reacted to this
Gezinha 121 Posted November 23, 2014 People who have had their children here will be able to get papers when their children turn 18 and sign for them...what about the rest of the people? What about the farmers???
outofmxny 17 Posted November 23, 2014 People who have had their children here will be able to get papers when their children turn 18 and sign for them...what about the rest of the people? What about the farmers??? Actually, it's not until age 21 before a USC can petition for a relative. The system has always been about family ties and family unity. Many EWIs are facing a 10 year ban, so it doesn't matter if their children can file for them or not. They would have to go to their home country for their consular appointment, and ultimately cannot return until 10 years later. He's helping those people via the EO, and rightly so. If you want to make a sensible point, then say something along the lines of the following: "the system should change reflecting both family ties and meeting the needs of our changing economy. That way farm workers, relatives of LPRs/USCs, and the tech industry get a good deal as far as immigration goes." And I think you seem to neglect the fact that many of the same farm workers you are concerned about have USC children. If I recall, 300,000 or so will be helped via the DAPA program. 2 Hello_keren and God_why_m3 reacted to this
God_why_m3 19 Posted November 23, 2014 Honestly instead of some of us complaining we should be grateful for this. Some might see this as a slap in the face but now more people can apply for the parents DACA. YALL was complaining about that. Now this. Some people just can't be happy. Like outofmxny said be humble and grateful for this. Just imagine if this was a next president, we wouldn't have ish! . Is not all about green cards. Right now it's all about those work permit! We can work for three years then keep on renewing it. I'm more excited for that, that I can use that to continue work the legal way so my gorgeous daughter shouldnt have to worry about where her diapers, food and etc is coming from. Like everyone else we all miss our families back home. Obama is doing the best he can. It's up to congress to the rest which is giving us greencards by that way we can go home legally and come back to the US legally. BE GRATEFUL AND HUMBLE FOR THIS! COZ IN A BLINK OF AN EYE IT CAN BE TAKEN AWAY! 2 Solrac and Hello_keren reacted to this

outofmxny 17 Posted November 24, 2014 I would b saying the same thing even if I didn't have a child!! LIKE I SAID BE HUMBLE AND GRATEFUL. DNT U N OTHERS BE SAYING GOD IS GOOD. SO WAH HAPPEN TO SAYING THAT INSTEAD OF BEING PISSED AT OBAMA? DOES THAT MAKE ANY SENSE? THATS JST BEING UNAPPRECIATIVE . WANTEE WANTEE NUH GET IT. GETTE GETTE NUH WANT IT Where are you from? Jamaican here. I just said the same thing to my mother (Wantee wantee...etc) about the EO. And I agree with you, Gezinha. DAPA did not cover some deserving individuals. Be it the number of years of continuous residency, DUIs, or the filing fees. There are always going to be "deserving" people who don't get what they truly deserve. It's a sad, but true, fact of life. And without requirements, you have psychos from the right yelling "Amnesty!" What we have to do at this point, is lobby for a permanent solution and that means trying to get a Democratic House and Senate elected within the next 2 years. 1 God_why_m3 reacted to this
justshady 4 Posted November 24, 2014 Obama did whatever can with his limits, technically he didn't have to do anything. Looking at this a year later and I can say I'm truly grateful for not having to avoid the ssn box and walking around with a foreign passport with no visa. I'm currently building credit and starting a new business and Its all legal, all within 6 months of being approved. Now this is expanded for an extra year and also some parents can enjoy this also yet people still complain...smh Try to remember your life before June 2012. 3 God_why_m3, Solrac and Hello_keren reacted to this

Theresa 63 Posted December 20, 2014 I'm thankful because it really has been almost 3 decades since 1986 without anything happening plus more time for people who did not enter the United States before January 1, 1982 to be able to qualify for the 1986 amnesty. Plus many who were here many years before that but didn't know about it missed out because the time to apply ran out on them. I met someone the other day who came here in 1978 but because of working two jobs, only gave him little time to sleep, did not have a tv to watch the news, no one told him, and didn't benefit from it. There are tons of people with that story. We are lucky this is actually happening in our time 2 pau.rz07 and outofmxny reacted to this
