itzel 336 Posted October 30, 2012 Every state has different requirements. Im in TX and they are pretty uptight about having all the proper paperwork. I also got my TX ID for only 2 years. I notice youre from California. A member here by the name of C_Air23, may be able to guide you better than me. He already got his CA ID and I believe his DL and a job too. Once you have applied for your SSN, you are able to obtain a print out from SOcial Security of your SSN...I applied Tuesday and went back to the office Thursday to get a print out of my number...after that, I went straight to DMV and applied for a California ID...I just filled out the form, wrote my SSN and showed them my EAD as a proof of residency...took my thumb print and photo and 11 days later I got my Cali ID...I am now just waiting for my Drivers license which I passed last Thursday...waiting for the card. Aled 118 Posted October 30, 2012 Hi Infusion, rest assured that once you're case is approved you're not going to get denied after. If you take a better look at the acceptance letter it should say that you're EAD card may take up to 3o days to be received after production. I also live in CA and will be applying for both my state ID and DL. they are 2 different forms of ID in CA and therefore you are able to have both. i want both because here is what happened to my mom. she had her purse stolen and her DL and SSN and everything else that was her purse. so the next day she went to the SSA to get a replacement of her SSN and they told her without a valid ID, she could not get a replacement. they even wouldnt take her naturlization certificate as proof of who she is. so she had to go to the DMV, wait 2 weeks for her state ID and then go back to the SSA. this is way i want both. i would keep my state ID at home in a safe place and just carry my DL with me but if my purse (or wallet) were ever stolen, then i could just use my state ID as my ID until my DL was replaced. also, seeing how they are 2 forms of ID, you could use them to open a bank account, if you need to or anything else that ask for 2 forms of ID. Denied on the Drivers Permit? No, once you have the paper, all you have to do is take the Actual driving test, and if you pass, theyll mail you out your DL card...unless you are a minor, you have to atleast wait 6 months i think? or maybe 3 months untll you can take your actual driving test... You can apply for the DL...take the written test and if you pass, they will give you a permit...then after, you can schedule a behind the wheel test. I only applied for both because I was curious on how many years they give me on my Cali ID..which they gave me 6 years on my Cali ID. I am hoping they give me a 5 yrs DL! I also applied for a Cali ID so I can have an ID first while I am waiting for my DL to come..I wasnt sure if I was going to take my DL test yet or not but was anxious to get everything over with..so I did it in a week. lol 1 Infusion reacted to this Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
