ysmr 0 Posted January 30, 2013 So I got my work permit card and I went to the ssn office with the stuff I needed to get a card but I wasn't able to get it because I didn't have have the proper identification so they said I needed a state I.d and they wrote me a letter to get it at the bmv I went there and I showed them the letter and they looked at my I.d and said they wouldn't valid that are because it's under c33 category, but what does that mean? I don't understand at all. Someone please help!
sandym 0 Posted March 5, 2013 Yes, for Oklahoma. I just showed my EAD & SSN. Only valid for the validity of EAD, not bad though.

In CA, it depends on the person that processing your application. some have gotten it for the regular amount of time of 5 yrs and others have only gotten it for the time that their EAD is valid. edxxx 9 Posted March 17, 2013 What proof of residency did you guys in CA take for a DL? Will a bank statement and pay stub be enough? Pay stub has a different SS# though,
JoseG 383 Posted March 17, 2013 What proof of residency did you guys in CA take for a DL? Will a bank statement and pay stub be enough? Pay stub has a different SS# though, You don't need proof of residency. You need to prove your birth date and legal presence, the EAD will cover both. Then, you'll just need your SSN number. edxxx 9 Posted March 17, 2013 You don't need proof of residency. You need to prove your birth date and legal presence, the EAD will cover both. Then, you'll just need your SSN number. Really? So all I need to do is take those 2 documents and fill out an app? I guess that's why I didn't find a list on the dmv website.

Just your EAD and SSN. They don't even ask to see the actual SSN card, you just need to write down the number on the application.
Rawf 336 Posted March 17, 2013 (edited) That's correct. Just your EAD and SSN. They don't even ask to see the actual SSN card, you just need to write down the number on the application. Sounds like they are less strict over there in CA. Here I was asked for the bill for proof of residency even thought they already had the EAD in hand and to top it off, they also asked for the physical social security card. JoseG 383 Posted March 17, 2013 Yeah, it's quite easy to apply for an ID and DL here in CA, you only need to show the SSN card if you're applying for a Commercial Driver's License.
AlexH 0 Posted March 18, 2013 I'm confused about the DL in Texas. I went there and took my approval letter but they wouldn't accept it as proof of residency in TX because I just got it a couple of weeks ago. So now I have my biometric scan letter which is from DHS, from December, and what else could I show them? I'm wondering if both proofs of residency have to be 90 days or older? I took my SSN and EAD and the clerk said those were fine, but when she asked me for proof of residency in Texas I showed her the approval letter that has my address and she said that wouldn't work because it had to be at least 90 days old. I have not had any bills in my name that would arrive with my address or anything. Pretty much I just have stuff that wouldn't work as per that list. All that I do have are these government papers but they are too recent apparently. So can I use the biometric letter and maybe a copy of a college transcript or something. Basically what is confusing me most are the dates and/or ages of these documents as in those lists of requirements it says nothing about it. I don't know what to show them. Thanks for the help by the way.
pswa83 302 Posted March 18, 2013 ok, on that link it says this: If you cannot prove you have lived in Texas for at least 30 days and that you are here legally (steps 1 and 2), ask a driver license employee for information about Texas’ Temporary Visitor Policy maybe that would give you a temp permit so that you can still drive while gaining time to show residency. also, do you have any sort of bank accounts or anything like that? i dont know how old you are or when you graduated high school but if those records are recent could also work as well. Just opened my first ever bank account last week. lol I'm currently attending college, would a transcript work? Would it have to be official? I have a copy of last semester. I can print out bunch of school receipts that show my address the thing is I don't know if they'll accept those.... if they have to be officially mailed to me or something. I've been living at the same address for like 6 years now and have been in college for like 2....
DreamersVoice 13 Posted May 5, 2013 I went to the MvA to get my learners permit and was told my "status" hasn't been updated in the homeland security database that they check for everyone that isn't a us citizen. So I couldn't get my Learners and have to wait anywhere from 5 days to 60 days in order to get it. Basically after they electronically approve it although I had all my correct documents with me. Seemed a bit sketchy. The lady even showed me the computer screen of the database they check. Anybody else have this issue? Did I go to early (after being approved on April 29)?? How long did you wait before you went to mva (some states its DMV)?? I want to go again next week to if they'll say the same thing. I thought its approved electronically before we even get physical copies and things mailed to us.
Santi 353 Posted May 6, 2013 Not sure if anyone shared this before, but Michigan and Iowa are both granting Driver Licenses to Dreamers... MIchigan: "Michigan will only issue driver's licenses to individuals who are here legally," Michigan Secretary of State Ruth Johnson ® said in a statement. "The feds now say they consider these young people to be lawfully present while they participate in the DACA program, so we are required to issue driver's licenses and identification cards. I will continue to follow the law..." Full Article: http://abcnews.go.co...59#.UYdFnbWG1yo Iowa: State officials have reversed course and will issue driver’s licenses to young immigrants who get “deferred action status” from the federal government. In late December the Iowa DOT ruled the children of illegal immigrants who were brought into the country when they were 16 or younger are not eligible for licenses. According to Iowa DOT director Paul Trombino, Friday’s statement from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security has clarified these young immigrants are “lawfully present.” Full Article: http://www.radioiowa...ivers-licenses/ These are great news for Dreamers living in both MI and IA who either have been already DACAmented, or are in the process to do so!
