Getting a state ID

Recommended Posts

So I just got approved and this week I'm going to apply for my SSN and once I get that, my state ID.

[For applicants under 62, a short-term ID card is valid for four to five years and costs $9 to $10. A long-term ID card is valid for eight to nine years and costs $13 to $14.

Of course I'd like to get a long term ID but I'm to turn 21 in 3 years. Do I just get a 4 year one and then get a long term one after I turn 21?

I was hoping they'd automatically update it and send me a new one even if I buy the long term ID.

Interesting.. That website doesn't seem to be accurate. It says in RI you pay close to 27 and it is valid for 5 years.. Which is not true.. It is valid for 4 years.

I would just get the cheapest one and then get the other one after because minors Id has a different color than adults.

you have both a DL and state ID. i live in CA and have both. they are considered 2 different forms of ID and therefore not illegal to have both.
