pswa83 302 Posted November 13, 2012 here in CA, mine is vaild for 5 yrs and my state ID is good for 6. i have heard of some ppl in CA only getting a DL for 2 yrs. i guess it all depends on who helps you at the DMV. but if you google the DMV in the state that you live in, you can look at the drivers handbook and it should say in there how long it is usually good for. Gezinha 121 Posted December 9, 2012 That is so ridiculous, you have to kind of cross your fingers so you wont get someone in a bad mood that day, so, you may get your license for more than 2 years. That is absurd, you may have all your papers in hand, and still, depending on the level of racism of the person in front of you, you may get treated as fairly as everyone else. Arghhhh I can't stand beind treted differently just because of stupid papers, and sometimes, it is not even the papers, bc in all reality, they papers are important. Now, being treated differently bc some of us aren't blonde and blue eyed when we have been in line for certain things for hours, now, that is what really pissess me off man.Hopefully, some of us won't get smacked with this label in line to get a license, and for the ones that do, I am very sorry, and this has to change. JoseG 383 Posted December 9, 2012 I don't think it has to do anything with racism, just uninformed or nice DMV employees. According to the DMV website here in California, if your Legal Presence Document (EAD) is valid for less than 5 years, you will be issued a Limited Term Driver License. That means that we all should be getting a 2 year DL because of our 2 year EAD. It's not because of racism that some are getting the 2 year DL, that's simply what the DMV is supposed to do. Although some people do get the full 5 year Driver License, it is still not known why. Perhaps an employee that doesn't know the guidelines on EADs, or maybe it's someone who was being nice and bypassing it and giving you a full term DL. Jinpin3 8 Posted December 12, 2012 When I went to the DMV the guy told up front that my license was a limited term license. I think most of us should be greatful that we are allowed to get license. Lets complain about racism when we get residency and people treat us differently.
