About employment...

Guys, I have a really important question. I have been offered a position in a dental clinic I could only dream of, I thought using my fake ssn would work because they would not check, because no one ever did check my papers before, so, I got offered the position for sure a few hours ago, and the person said they need my ssn and license to fill out an I-9 form. I checked out what an I-9 is, and it is not good at all if I want to go ahead with my fake ssn, this will not work for me. An I-9 form is to actually check for accurate paperwork. So, i did my biometrics today and I am supposed to start the new job on the 3rd of December, should I tell these people the truth, to wait until maybe mid december for me to get my papers in order? I dont know what to do, because if I do tell them about it, it means that I was planning on using a fake ssn in first place and I would be sort of deceiving them. I am not worried about the license part, I am just worried that if I tell them the truth, the confidence they migh have had in me could be shattered. Or, I was thinking that I could call them next week and come up with some sort of explanation to stall until my ead gets here, which is definitely shady on my part, but this is really an excellent job position that I would kill for. Help me, please!!!!

Youre in a tough position...ultimately the decision will be yours and you should follow your gut feeling.

If I was in that position I'd be honest and tell them that im in the process of obtaining my social security and that Im very interested in the position, hell, Id even offer to take a little less than what they offered me in wages as long as they allowed me to still be in the running for the position. Whatever you decide, good luck..and remember even if you dont get this job, other windows will open.....

Hi Gezinha,

I am in the same situation as you. I got a job offer and I am waiting on my EAD, although I have already been approved. But nonetheless, I do not have an EAD and SSN in my hand right now. So I was honest with my future employer and told them that I am waiting on some papers, and that I could start in a couple of weeks. In my case, my employer is fine with it.

If this is possible for you. I would recommend talking to your employer about it, and just tell them that you are just waiting for some formalities to get your papers ready for work. if they are reasonable people, they should understand.

Good luck.

Itzel, thank you, I think it is the best think to do. Angela thank you so much, I was hoping to find someone in the same situation who had it figures out, lol, thanks so much. I will tell them about the situation, it will probably be til mid Dcember to get it all ready. I will even offer to work for less if they prefer for the time being. Thank you guys so much.

You should absolutely tell them the truth but tweak it a tad by telling them you applied in August a while before they offered you the job and you expected to receive your paperwork in time. Do not mention the fake social whatsoever and lose the guilt! You're not going to use it anymore and you have something legit and real that you're going to be able to use.

I would absolutely not take less wages because of this. I assume they offered you this position for a reason. I would put in writing how much you're looking forward to working for them and see if they'd be willing to let you start later. I would feel it out from there.

We're in the workforce now! You're legit and talented! Good luck!!!!

I totally second amor's opition. Tweak it a bit, make it seem natural and guilt free. And I wouldn't offer to take less either. I am sure they see potential in you and you deserve what they would pay any other starting employee ;)

I see what you guys are saying, and I totally agree. I am just worried that they will thbink "oh, she took the position with no papers in hand." Doesn't that look a little fishy? What could I say to the employers that would make them believe that it will be here by mid December if it has been months and papers are not here yet? I guess I am just a little nervous because this job is so important to me at this point. Thank guys.

I'm sure all professional places are using the E-9 which is the E-Verify, I know where I work they use that to make sure people hired by the company are legal in the US or have a legal work permit.

I would be straight forward with them, but if you haven't been approved yet then I don't think you should take the job. Good luck on whatever you decide to do :)

Hi there,

You should be honest with your future employer. I can see how you are excited to start the new job and these oportunities don't happen all the time. Nevertheless, if they verify documents in that office you will find yourself in a very embarrasing and difficult situation. Let's hope you get the approval soon so you can start working there. Is it possible for you to speak with the person who hired you and explain how close you are from getting your documents? Maybe they can pay you as an independent contractor with your ITIN number - meaning you pay the taxes and after you obtain your SSN and EAD you could just be included in the payroll?

This is an excellent suggestion, I did not know this could be done. Thank you so much. I will try to include that as an option when I explain the situation to them, which I will, otherwise I will be read faced on the firts day of work when my papers don't come up as valid. Thanks again.

Don't think of yourself as undocumented anymore. Take a positive spin on the situation. You absolutely qualified for DACA so it's a matter of "when" and not "if".

Tell them that you were sure your process would be finalize in time after seeing how fast it was moving but it slowed down a little after the election.

I know this is a really nerve-wracking situation but don't feel so emotional or insecure about it. Keep reminding yourself of your skills and that they WANT you and this is just logistics you have to figure out.

Only thing I really, really believe is that you should give them a heads up YESTERDAY. Do not go in on your first day and let them figure it out or try to explain.

Crossing my fingers for you! This is so emotional for us but its just a number and taxes for everyone else. It's like losing your ID and waiting for a new one! Lol except not! Haha but really... Be confident and positive. If they have a problem with it, on to the next! You're a working woman now!

So, I told them the situation, and they were happy to wait at least until January for my papers, I do believe the stuff will be here before the end of January. So, best of luck to anyone in the same situation.

I hope everyone is getting better jobs, and going after what they want. This is such a blessing for all of us.
